Epilogue

A YEAR LATER

June's perspective

"What kind of wine is this?" Nikolai asked Tess.

"Secret recipe. A gift from Antarctica."

As soon as the words left Tess' mouth, he choked and put it away. "Ew. No way am I drinking anything from that twisted place."

Most Antarctica citizens had opposed the Combatants, and I've learnt to forgive them.

We sat together—Amethyst, Nikolai, Tess, Day, and I—and waited for dinner to be served, a treat from Anden.

Amethyst smiled at me as she sat down. Throughout the year, Amethyst and I became friends, just like how Day and Nikolai began to accept each other. It wasn't because Nikolai was kind, but because of Tess. And ever since Tess and Nikolai officially became a couple, Nikolai definitely took a turn for the better. Old Nikolai always wore a grimace, like a depressed person building walls around himself. New Nikolai's walls crumbled, and he was nicer, wearing smiles more often (mostly dazed smiles). Tess also made him stop going to pubs and clubs, and Nikolai definitely stopped hitting on girls now. It was clear he only had eyes for Tess.

"Where's Day?" Asks Tess just as I received a message.

"I'll go get him." I reply, heading outside. I found Day standing just outside the doors, hands in his pockets.

"Day, why aren't you inside?" I asked. "It's getting chilly." He looked up.

"I was just... thinking. Are we going to tell them?" He holds my hand and I rest my head on his shoulder, knowing what he was referring to.

"It's time." I nod, and he plants a kiss on my forehead. Silently, we head inside. As soon as we head inside, he spoke.

"June and I have something important to say."

Everyone glanced up. "What is it, then?" Anden asked.

"We... we're getting married." Gasps ran through all of them, and they all seem happy for us.

"Congratulations!" Amethyst exclaims, grinning. And Nikolai lacked his usual sarcasm, he truly seemed glad.

"Dude, do not tell me you proposed on Christmas." Nikolai raises his wine glass.

"I did, why?"

"Because that's what I did."

Gasps ran through the group again, and I'm genuinely happy for them. After all, Tess and Nikolai are definitely better with each other.

"Oh my god. You guys!" Amethyst laughs. Anden's chasing after Amethyst, and quite recently, Amethyst decided to give him a chance.

"Yeah, I always assumed my sister would marry first." Nikolai grins.

Amethyst turns to him. "Did you just acknowledge me as your sister?" Her eyes are full of disbelief.

"Sure I did." He chuckles. I guess it's one of the incredible things Nikolai finally did, thanks to Tess.

"That's a miracle. I must be dreaming." Amethyst says, and we start laughing. It's a wonderful post-Christmas dinner today.

And so this is the amazing second adventure I had. Not a bad one really.

Not a bad life at all.
