chapter 3

Riker POV

After Laura and Ross left for their date, I had to find something to do or else I'd probably keep making my situation more and more awkward. I really couldn't stop staring at Vanessa. She was beautiful, even in the morning. I put down my tea and clapped my hands together.

"So! What are we going to do today now that the two lovebirds are gone?" I exclaimed happily now that we were alone. I don't know if Vanessa likes me in a romantic way, but today is the day. Today is operation 'show Vanessa your feelings and see if she likes you back' or 'SVYFASISLB' for short. I know its not the perfect name, but we'll worry about that later.

"I don't know.... You wanna go see that movie?" she asked.

"what movie?" I asked.

"Wait a sec.... Oh! I remember it now... its called 'The Fault In Our Stars'. I heard it was supposed to be really good." she smiled. I thought about it for a moment. This is kind of like a date...  I smiled at the thought while Vanessa waited for my answer.

"Okay, when does it start?" I asked.

"It starts at 2:00pm, so we have time to get ready... And maybe after the movie we can go get ice cream or something." she suggested.

"Okay, let's get ready first and then we can go out for lunch somewhere. But it has to be cheap." I warned her. She's always trying to go some place fancy. I'm going to be in debut by the time I'm 30.

"Okay!" she laughed. She went to go take a shower while I finished my tea. I set my empty cup down and sighed happily.

An hour later, Vanessa finally came out of the shower.

"Why'd you take so long?" I asked teasingly.

"Hey, girls take longer showers because we are delicate."  she said with a smug smile. 

"Yeah, okay." I replied sarcastically. We both laughed and then she went up to her room to finish getting ready. When she was showering, I had time to choose my attire for this evening. I chose a white t-shirt, nothing too fancy... and then I found red skinny jeans that matched my checkered scarf. It wasn't anything special, but I thought it looked pretty good.

After about 15 minutes of giving my hair the 'messy look', I got dressed. I waited down stairs for Vanessa, who was taking forever to get ready. But when she came out, she looked beautiful. I looked at her longingly, and when I noticed the weird expression on her face, I looked away, embarrassed.

She was wearing a white flowy skirt that reached right above the knee and a peach colored no-sleeved crop shirt with a black tank top underneath. She wore something simple, but damn was she beautiful. I gave her a smile and we were on our way.

Ross POV

Laura and I decided to go to a local Brunch Shop a few blocks away from the house. It was a café that served both breakfast and lunch. When we got there, Laura smiled brightly.

"I'm starving! Let's go in..." she opened the door and ran up to the door with me right behind her. I smiled at her enthusiasm.

We walked in and took a seat by the window. The café had many windows that made everything bright and cheerful in the room. It had high ceilings and nice customer service,too.

I ordered a BLT with a side salad, while Laura ordered a salad as her main course and a small cup of fries for her side. She got an ice tea and I got water with some lemons.

"So? Does this mean we're dating?" Laura suddenly asked.

"Yeah, I guess it does." I smiled happily. We ate our food and headed back to the house. We found a letter on the door that read~

"Vanessa and I went out to eat lunch, but we won't be back until later so don't wait up."

~Riker

"Well, that was short. I wonder what else they're doing?" Laura said and we walked in.

Vanessa POV

"So, where do you think we should go out to eat?" I asked Riker. He shrugged and I thought about places we could go.

"What about that place on Maintstreet?" he suggested.

"That new one?" I asked.

"Yeah, I heard it was great." he said.

"Okay, let's try it out." I said.

When we got to the restaurant, we noticed the fancy chandeliers and food. I looked around in awe.

"I thought you said no place fancy..." I said.

"I was kidding.... I'd do anything for you." he said smiling.

" Really?" I asked seriously.

"Really what?" he stopped laughing.

"You'd do anything for me?" I asked.

"Yeah, you're my best friend, why wouldn't I?"  He said. I frowned. 'Best Friends?'

"What's wrong?" Riker asked worriedly.

" Nothing" I sighed. We took our seats. I ordered a steak salad and water as a beverage, while Riker ordered an all-you-can-eat shrimp special with a glass of green tea with some ginseng. When we finished, we got back in the car and headed up the road to the movie theater.

Riker POV

I really didn't know about this movie... It seemed really sad, but I didn't want to admit that to Vanessa.

"So, you excited?" I asked her as the lights finally went out.  She nodded her head and smiled cheerfully.

The movie was amazing. I cried through most of it, without Vanessa's realization, though. That's why I was a little wary before I watched the movie. What can I say? I'm a sucker for these kind of movies.

"I was thinking?" I started.

"yeah?" Vanessa said as we drove to the ice cream place.

"I know we've been friends for a long time...but I want us to be more than friends." I said nervously.

"Me too." She looked up at me and smiled. I smiled back as we intertwined our fingers. We talked after we finished our ice cream. And when we got back to the house, we told everyone the news.
