Will startled awake. He blinked up at the underbelly of the table, then sat up, scanning the hall for danger.
He crawled out from under the table and stood, wincing. His body ached, his infected wrists throbbing. Fatigue weighed him down and muddied his thoughts.

You have to get out of here.

The thought made his fatigue wash away. He began to creep down the hall, his dirty, scuffed dress shoes almost silent on the floor.

An idea came to Will. Pressing himself against a wall, concealed from any who could have been in the hall, he unknotted his tie and made makeshift bandages for his wrists; it was easy enough to tear the tattered tie in half.

Will kept to the shadows, praying that he wouldn't encounter any guards; he was in no condition to fight.
As he peeked down a hall, he saw a window-- and beyond that window, the sky, a brilliant blue. It was the most beautiful thing he'd seen.

Will walked to the window, blinking at the brightness; after spending months in a pitch-black cell, the light was near-blinding, and the dim halls didn't help much. With one hand, he fumbled for the bottom of the window, shielding his eyes against the dazzling light with the other.

The window gave under his hand. Will's breath caught. He pushed it higher.

He had it halfway open when he heard.

Footsteps.

The groans of bowstrings being pulled taut.

Will managed to duck just in time as the arrow buried itself in the windowsill, barely an inch from his hand.

More arrows flew past him, knicking the wall. With a curse, Will dived out of the way.

He rushed forward a few steps-- and came to a dead end.

He stopped, then whipped around, listening to the footsteps of his attackers as they advanced. His eyes desperately scanned the hall he was standing in, looking for anything he could have used for a weapon. But there was nothing.

And he was trapped.

Suddenly, an outrageous idea popped into his head.

If a child of Hades could travel through shadows... could a child of Apollo travel through light?

It sounded foolish in his head, but he was out of options. Taking a deep breath, Will called on his power.
The archers raced around the corner, bows drawn and arrows notched.

The son of Apollo vanished in a flash of light.
