Blyden thrashed, but Will held fast, even when he had to lean into the fire to make the chain taut.

Calling on his power, Will channeled light into Blyden. The demon howled as his power was burned, as he was burned.

Make it quick, Will told himself. Have mercy, even if he had put you through Hell.

So Will put everything he had into his power; he sent a pure beam of sunshine into Blyden. The demon became nothing but ashes that stuck to Will's clothes.

Will stumbled away from the fire. His back screamed at every move-- burned, but not horribly.

As though the flames had been tied to the general's life force, the fire vanished. The chain disappeared.

For a moment, Will stared at his hands, at the destruction around him.

Then his strength failed him. He collapsed.

Will could've sworn he heard shouting before he lost consciousness.
