Chapter 11

Chapter 11

I was awakened by people arguing downstairs, by their voices it sounded like 2 men. Getting up slowly I crept down the stairs and caught sight of the 2 people.

One was Jayden and the other was the person I fainted over earlier. All the childhood memories flashed through my head which made me recoil a little.

“So you decide to come back now?!” Jayden said as I listened in

“Didn’t think you cared to must Harrison, the last time I checked you were a dick to my sister” the other guy, Jamie, shot back

“People change Jamie” Jayden practically growled out

“Aww has little Jayden got a crush on my sister?” Jamie said in a baby voice

I thought it was a good time to jump in so I made my way down the rest of the stairs and entered the kitchen.

Jayden stopped with his mouth open and turned his head quickly to my direction as he heard me walk in. His eyes widened when he realised that I must’ve heard the entire thing.

Taking my eyes away from Jayden I turned towards Jamie who was stood there with a smirk on his face. What happened to my lovely older brother?

Stood before me was my 6ft older brother who must be at least 22 years old now. He hadn’t changed much; he had just got bulkier and had his blonde hair cut shorter.

“Alright sis?” Jamie said

I didn’t respond. 5 years ago Jamie just left without saying a word to anyone. I was 12 and one morning I woke up and his room had been cleared out. Gone. Not explanation.

We looked for years trying to find him but once he hit 18 the police gave up and said he was an adult so they couldn’t do anymore.

Now, I stared at him and didn’t know what to say.

Instead of words I just stepped forward and straight into his arms. He hugged me tightly back as tears streamed down my face with relief.

After a few minutes a surge of anger went through me so I pulled back and slapped him across the face.

He stood there in shock and placed his hand to his cheek. Jayden was in the corner crying with laughter.

“That was for leaving with no explanation” I said sternly

He nodded “Guess I deserved that”

“Yes you did” I crossed my arms and stood there like a spoilt child.

“Can I at least explain?”

“That was a good slap!” Jayden cried out, still laughing

A small smile came to my face as Jamie scowled. “Let’s just have a chat” Jamie mumbled and went into the dining room to sit at the table.

I looked at Jayden who was wiping away his tears. I rolled my eyes and motioned for him to follow.

We all got comfy around the table and listened in to what Jamie had to say.

“5 years ago dad took my laptop away from me because I argued with him. Being the rebel I was I sneaked into dad’s office and searched for the laptop. I never found my laptop but I found something that would change our lives”

“Our lives? As I both of us?” I asked as I frowned

Jamie nodded “I found our adoption papers”

I gasped. I never even suspected that we would be adopted. I never looked like either of my parents but I had my mom’s blonde hair and she always said that I looked like my nan I never knew. I just accepted it.

“Are we related?” tears formed in my eyes

Jamie smiled “Yeah we are actually, we’re still siblings. It seems that when mom and dad went to adopt you, 4 year old me wouldn’t let you go so they had to adopt me too”

A grin spread across my face at the news. At least I have a real family member. A blood relative.

“It’s weird. You would think that I would remember being in a children’s home but I just didn’t. I have no memories at all” Jamie shrugged

“So that’s why you ran away?” I pushed

“Yeah, I couldn’t look at our parents without looking at them in shame. I couldn’t stand it anymore so I left. Leaving you was the worst thing I had to do but I needed to find our real parents”

“And did you?” I asked hopeful

“I found our real mom, Kaylee, but I don’t know about our real dad. Our real mom lives in a city called Plymouth in England. I went over there to get find her and I did. I’ve been there ever since” he explained

“Why did she leave you two?” Jayden piped in

“She was a teenage mom at 15 when she had me and kept me for 4 years and stayed with our dad but when she found out she was pregnant at 19 she couldn’t cope so gave us both up for adoption. Our real dad left her so she moved to England to start a new life and go uni there”

I nodded, I completely understood. Being a teenage mom must’ve been extremely hard so I can forgive her for that.

“Is she married now? Have we got any other siblings?” I asked eagerly

“She got married again and we’ve got a younger brother called Jack”

“Awww can I go see them?”

“We have to talk to mom and dad first Lacey. We need to know why they never told us” Jamie reasoned

My face fell when he said this. Our parents lied to us our entire lives, how could they do that to us?

I groaned and placed my head on the table “This is such a mess”

I felt a hand get placed on my back and when I looked to my side I saw that it was Jayden’s hand and he was looking at me with a small smile on his face.

I also noticed that the clock said 6pm. My eyes widened when I remembered that I had my date with Corey!

I jumped up from my seat “Jamie, your more than welcome to stay here while mom and dad are away but if you need me I’ll be staying at the Harrison’s until their back”

Jamie nodded “You need to be somewhere?” noticing my sudden eagerness

“I got a date tonight! Jayden, come on let’s go! Bye Jamie! I’ll come over tomorrow!” I have him one last hug and ran out the door.

Jayden came behind me with a frown on his face and not looking happy at all. He was mumbling under his breath when he turned on the engine.

Time for the date with Corey!
