Chapter 21

I stared at the little plus sign telling me that I was well indeed pregnant. The only thought that rushed through my head was that this was going to ruin Jayden’s career chances.

“Oh my god! What are you going to do?” Becky looked at me shocked

“I don’t know” I sighed and sat down on my bed.

“You have to tell Jayden” Becky came and sat down next to me

“I can’t” my voice cracked when tears started to brim in my eyes

“What?”

“I can’t ruin his future!” I argued

“He has a right to know Lacey! How can you keep something as big as this from him!” Becky stood up, pacing. I’ve never seen her so angry at me.

“Would you rather he didn’t go college and stayed home because he had to look after his kid! It would ruin his dream!”

“He’s my brother Lace and now a father! He needs to know!” her voice raised with every word

“No” I said stubbornly. She’ll soon realise that I’m doing this for the better. To give Jayden a life he wants and deserves.

“You are unbelievable!” she shouted at me. With one last glare she stormed out of the room.

I lied back on my bed and cried my heart out. I managed to fall out with my boyfriend and best friend all in one day. Was Jamie next on my list?

A few days had passed and I still hadn’t spoken to Jayden or Becky. Jayden was leaving for college tomorrow and there was a little piece of my heart that is empty but I knew that it was all my fault. I think Jamie started to get suspicious as he cornered me after school and asked questions.

“What’s going on Lacey? You haven’t spoken to Jayden or Becky in days and I’ve never seen that happen before” Jamie asked, concerned.

“We just had a little falling out over Jayden going college. It’s no big deal” I forced a smile on my face

Jamie looked at me sceptically but nodded anyway “Okay” he said slowly “if there was something serious going on, you would tell me right?”

I tried to swallow but a huge lump formed in my throat as I had to lie to my own brother “yeah of course” the fake smile shining now.
