I slammed my school books down on the coffee table when the doorbell rang.  I grabbed the bowl of Halloween candy, and looked out the window, where a cute little girl in a Tinker Bell costume stood. I opened the door to the porch as the little Tinker Bell smiled and said, “Trick-or-Treat!”

“Hi! You are Tinker Bell, right? Does Tinker Bell want some candy?” I smiled at her.

“Yes, please,” she held her bag out.

“Okay, here ya go! Take three,” I lowered the bowl to her level. After she took some candy and left, I decided I had enough, so I put the candy on the porch. I run upstairs to my room and put on my little (kind of slutty) kitty cat costume for Blake McLaughlin’s Halloween party.   Before I got into my car to leave, I made sure all the lights were off.

I could feel and hear the music a block away, and as I got closer, I realized that parking spaces were limited. I found a space on his lawn and before going in, locked my car. I did not bother knocking, or ringing the bell, so I just let myself in. In the back of the crowd, I saw a tall, brunette girl with a slim figure, “Kayla!”

Kayla, my best friend whipped her head around and ran towards me, “Ariel! You made it! Want some booze?”

“Uh, no thanks. Some of us have to drive home because our parents are out of town,” I reminded her.

“Fine, miss out on all the fun!” She teased and ran back to the dance floor, where she started grinding on some college aged boy.  I walked around in hope to find a quiet space, or cute guys to chat with, but all I found was Blake’s backyard. He had his pool open, I took my heels off and put my feet in. Ah, heated glory of a pool.

For a second, I almost forgot I was at a party, and I took out my journal and started to draw in it. Not until one of Blake’s friends, Ryan, snuck up behind me, was I actually in reality “Hey, Ariel! What ya drawing?”

“Oh, um, nothing,” I shoved it into my purse, “So…”

“Would you like some water?” Ryan held out a cup for me.

“Sure,” I took the cup and gulped the nice, ice-cold water down.

“So, you gonna show me your art, or is it just a secret?” He sat beside me.

“Uh, I guess you can look at this drawing,” I handed him what I was working on. I was of the party, the view from the outside. You could see the elaborate French doors that led into the house, the large porch, and all of the bushes that lined the porch and ground.

        “This is amazing,” he complimented.

“Thanks,” I blushed.  I took a look at Ryan’s watch and saw that it was close to midnight. And me being the responsible, ‘goody-two-shoes’ person that I am, decided it was time to get back to my house, “Oh, gosh, I have to get home! I’ll see you Monday”

“What about tomorrow or Sunday?” He asked with puppy dog eyes.

“Um, sorry, it’s a Friday night. I have to clean the house before my mom and dad get back on Sunday night. I am going to have coffee at The Brew tomorrow morning though,” I stuffed my journal back into my bag and headed out. When I got in my car, I choose to take the shortcut through the old road. Seeing that some little children were still out and about, and none of them go on that road, I figured it was the safest route. I turned my headlights on as I got into the woody section of the road.

A tall dark figure, a person, darted out across the street, I slammed on my breaks, but still hit them. I put my car into park and check on him. He laid on the street, his eyes shut, dirty blonde hair messy, and nice suit all dirty. Suddenly, he jerked up, and someone that must have been behind me, spun me around. This guy was tall, a little muscular, had nice brown hair, but the only thing that made him un-human like was his yellow eyes. He finally opened his mouth, where a calm hushed tone came out, “Don’t scream. When I tell you to walk away, you will not remember this moment,”

“Ew, get off me perv!” I yelled.

“Klaus, it did not work. Maybe she is one of us. Or just on Vervain?” the blonde added.

“Uh, what the hell is Ver-whatever you said?” I faced him.

“She’s neither, Kol. What is this!” Brown hair sounded annoyed.
