Conner hummed a little in holding the range of donuts he had gotten on his way to the bar. It was that kind of morning the sunlight seemed softened and golden, still enough from the summer night air to keep the heat at bay for a while. Everything looked green and fresh as birds flew around in their own songs added to the light mood the day had cast.

It was one of those few nights also he had no dreams of that day from his childhood to kill his mood. In truth, Conner was more and more looking forward to his hours working in the bar with Beier Hay. Even if it was something he did not want to admit to himself. Brier was goofy and also bright with a bray like a laugh that came deep from her body in shudders. Hell, he loved that sly smile she might give him out of the corner of his eyes in plots she had for him.

It was no news she was on the way to being expected by Bricker in her interactions with them. Even most of the people now smiled and waved at the group. Just he and a few others knew who they really were and why they had come to this little town in the first place. Frowning in also knowing himself why he could never go beyond even a slight friendship with Brier.

She was a Luna of a werewolf pack, that blunt ugly truth. She needed a wolf who can openly be with her and help her with the pack and a lot of other details. Not a Changeless like him, which was why he was keeping safe and away. Just if Nolan might get that hint.

The Warlock had put his onyx gaze on Rachal, the beta of the wolf pack. With his easy smile and air, he and her shot barbs at the other in work, but body lingo sold a whole new truth to any eyes watching. Her slight shadow smile when turn after his bad joke or his let brow raising when she laughed at him. Even when they got close, they seemed to find ways to touch in a light passing.

"Nolan needs to tighten the leash on his dick, werewolves only go on their own." He thought, now his mood back its normal gray zone.

What he was not ready for when he opened the door, was it flying open, and Brier running right into him and the box of pastries he dropped to put his hands up in the shock as he dropped them. Her body clashed with his in her stepping back and his arms found themselves catching her by her waist, his thumb feeling the warmth of her bare skin on her upper hip. Everything sent a wave of shock through his body to his nerves in her scent floating on the winds to him, mint and honey with the wild undertone of the wolf soul.

Conner lost his mind, his wolf stirring in her scent and pushing for a moment in some scents he could not grasp whispering needs into his mind. Blinking, he looked down to see her looking up, confused in her eyes and wide in staring at him. Blushing, he let her go and took a huge step away in missing her warmth so close to him.

Beri's mind was a fog from the airline rushing her body from the news of her father. To find her pack and keep them safe and talk to them about what to do. Everything was that moment before crashing into Conner MckCreed. Her forehead found itself touching his lean chest as his scent of brown sugar and wood flashed into her nose as she inhaled it deeply and her wolf shudder in pushing more into her mind in a rush of emotions. Everything with him close pulled her, making her feel safe as his strong hands found themselves on her waist and his finger made a feather-like touch on the skin of her hip above her jeans.

Just his scent had something else, woven and shadowed and still there. Pulling Conner's scent deeper into herself, her mind reeled over it, picking up something she had thought was only weird when she did: the wolf. It was wild and whispered into her body, her wolf yearning to find out more why this man, this human smelled like one of them?

"Is Conner....." Brier thought, now pushing away and looking at his blue eyes gazing down. Full of concern and questions swirling in depths and pulling the Luna more.

"Oh, my gods! Conner, I'm sorry! " Brier flummoxed over her words, smiling and blushing in pulling her goofy card. "Sorry, we have to head home! Something just came out of the blue!"

Conner cast a glance at Rachal who only seemed to look sideways at the dust floating in the air. He only smiled, keeping things loose in the pace of turns. "Alright, I did try to bring donuts...." he said, pointing down and seeing the smashed sugar goodness now in donut heaven.

Brier felt a wave guilt, Conner had gone out of his way to being nice. "Sorry Conner, look I can't stick around. So don't worry about do any work on the bar. Also, I'm super sorry for the pastries, its sweet you got them for us! Just we got to go! I'll text you later. "

Guilt flooded her more in seeing his gaze cool as if hurt by her shallow actions and words more. "Ok, it will give me some time to look at somethings and work on some other jobs."

Not saying much, it was hard for his mind to follow why he acted to rejected by Brier. Shaking his head, he kept his cool and picked up the smash donuts in a watery smile as he turned to walk away back to his truck.

"Conner I'm sorry..." she thought, feeling her chest hurt in seeing him change like that. "I'll make it up to him...."

Not speaking any more words, she and Rachal made their way to her jeep after she locked up. Just unknown, a pair of men in a beat up yellow truck, one grinning in seeing the crystal he held up to the light glow a deep blue.

"Seems we found ourselves some wolfs in town...."

Notes: Poor Conner, seems the more he tires and it comes back to bite him in the face. Also, what was the whole thing that passed with him and Brier? /taps her chin with a grin/ Guess you will have to read to find out, also whats with the creepy men in a truck?
