Conner sat on his truck, feeling the body the shake as he turned off the machine and took a moment not to move. A few cars sat around the old farmhouse and he knew Nolan's off the spot, hell even the rear tail light had that bad tape job still on it!
Lights and shadows flickered in the tall bay window, he caught Brier body profile in the frame, her curves soften by the shadows of the lights. He dryly swallowed, feeling nervous as a kid on his first prom night. This would be his first time in being with members of his own kind, every moment from that night, those hunters screaming in his ears.
How would they take him? An unshifted wolf? Most of their kind took that as a personal insult to their culture, choosing to be human at all times? How would Brier take him? Hiding what he was from the moment of their meeting? And also the draw he felt every time he saw her, caught her honey scent, her bray like laugh filling the room and making him smile. Conner for a moment felt panic as the thoughts rushed in his mind.
As his uncle would have told him: man up. Now was not the time to run away, it was time to face the events of both now and what happened in the past. Opening the truck the door, the scents of the forest at night pulled on his inner wolf. His eyes saw the details many of the normal levels might in the depth of the woods, a deer was eating the new spring grass with her fawn close to her side.
Walking, he took in the air to calm his mind and wolf, as the front door opened. Brier stood in the frame, the hues of her purple hair highlighted to make a halo around her face. Her eyes widen to see him, holding so many questions and worries it hurt him. She might be a Luna of a pack, but she also a young woman now faced with Hunters that would kill her family.
"Hi."
Conner looked bashful, his hand coming to rub the back of his head. Looking at her in a darting of eyes, his scent laced with anger and worry and stress caught on the winds to her. What was the thing, was he had come to them, wanting to help. It tugged at her stomach a little as her wolf felt pleased to see him.
"You want to come in Conner?" she asked, moving from the door as the light pathed out him.
Nodding, he walked in as more than a few eyes looked at the stranger who had come. Brier shut the door gentle, fearing if she slammed it, it might scare him away given how nerves he seemed. Nash was smiling, knowing Conner had come was a good chance to see to the warlock.
Every member of the pack watched him, curiosity in their eyes, a tilt to their heads at times in scenting him. He had taken off Nolan's ring so his true scent might be known to the wolves. Brier watched, biting her lip and watched as he made his way to Nash with a bit of a dirty look, gone as soon it was happening.
"Ok, so what are you? You smell like a wolf, but also not. Which means your one of us in some shape or form?" Abel's voiced was the edge, standing up as his frame seemed to fill the room.
Brier went to move, trying to keep the tensions now as Conner crossed his arms, looking cool and calm when eying the man up and down. "I'm unshifted."
If there was a cold bucket of water to hit Brier, it would have been those three little words and how much sense now everything made with Conner! How he acted, his stillness at moments or even when he somehow knew she was around the corner out of the blue with his goofy grin.
He lifted his chin, waiting for something or someone to make a move. Nash also stood up slowly, knowing not how the wolves might react to this news.
"So you've been living like a human all this time?" Judy asked, her eyes a little wide. "Why didn't you come to see us when we got here?"
"In most cases, when a wolf pack moves in, lone ones like me are given two choices: Join or leave. Some packs give a loner a time frame to make a choice, others don't care and go right after the wolf off the bat. You can't say nor demine it happens at a time." Conner pointed out, daring them to question his logic.
"He's right." Brier's voice was calm, even sad. "I've seen it happen with my dad's pack and some of the larger ones. Or we give smaller packs a chance to join an alliance of sorts, building the power base of the pack in a whole. Loner is welcomed given they can be wild cards if anything or might as spies for enemies. "
Licking his lips, it was nice to have some backup minus Nash with Brier speaking a known truth. "And unshifted, even more, worse, we are seen as culls, weak and a danger to wolves wholly. Some packs have forced the shift on members of their own pack, not giving them a choice. I personally made the choice not to shift for my own reasons and I like the idea of having a choice in my life."
Max looked down, casting a look at Sunny who had been through that. Forced to shift into his wolf by his parents in order not to look weak as a family and pack to the world. Most wolves shifted between ages 11 to 16 normally, Sunny had shifted when he was 17, forced by his Alpha and parents, painfully if anything.
"But, we have hunters now. Hunters that will do anything to kill our kind and the other supernaturals in this town. Even if they have littler the streets with bodies for their so-called holy war or whatever empty reasons they use to make them sleep at night. Hunters killed my family, my pack when I was just a boy. So now I've made the choice and have a chance to stop that from happening again." Conner's voice was hard, looking at Abel in a full way, his body taunted to fight if he had too.
Brier felt her cut twist, "You are from the Thunder Pack! Your May and Jack's son! They where my father's friends! I met you when we both five years old at a BBQ! for a pack gathering!"
He turned, his blue eyes wide in seeing Brier like it was that first time back in the bar of day one. Memories he had kept hidden bloomed in his mind of a little girl, brown-reddish hair and eyes full of laughter in a little blue sundress chasing grasshoppers. Yet his shock just seemed to turn into a warm smile, welcoming at her.
"You are the only girl I thought that liked bugs," Conner said.
Nolan watched, seeing Conner stand on his own was a new thing to him. Glad in the change and being well, the Alpha wolf to say in coming to the pack and voicing his reasons. "About time he grew up....and it seems Miss.Luna is very interested in him."
Max signed a moment, glad the drama was now over. "Now that this is done, can we make a plan on how to deal with the hunters?"
Notes: Ok done, Conner is with the pack, we got some connections on the past and the fight is about to start to save Bricker from the Saw family!
