A few hours before:

Rachel found herself staring at the old woman, well not old to say. Mary Lewis was a very overpower woman, the air frizzling around her as much as her ashen black hair. Mary stood a near 6'1; her body leaned from years as a personal trainer over towing the Beta female by more than a few inches. Her gray eyes reminded the werewolf of a sea storm, building and flashing far away.

She had thrown on a black blouse and light blue jeans, and a pair of dirty red high-tops. Mary was the local High Priestess of the Raven Coven, her head titled as her moonstone earrings flashed in the low light of the sun setting. Rachel felt her she was nearly a puppy to this woman in her late 50's, even more, when she smiled and eyes flickered to the warlock who was wrapping up on the stove.

"My girls are setting up the wards on each main way and back way of the town." Mary's slight Georgian accent flavored her words in a pleasant way to the ears.

Nolan turned, her onyx eyes locking on the fearless witch, nodding. "Good, I'm about done with this power boast also."

Rachel blinked walking over and taking a slight sniff of the brimstone like scent invading her nose as she wrinkled it a little. "Power boost?"

He grinned, throwing in a bit of clove as the scent deemed a little. "Gives us beings who use magic and such etc a bit more of an upon power, as the mushroom in the Mario games. Given also our hunter friends will be using magic against us, I thought it would be better for our side."

Leaning on the kitchen table, the witch let her senses keen in on the odd pair, picking up the feeling of warmth between the warlock and werewolf. "Interesting, how times have changed. Our kind would have never interacted like this a generation ago. Yet I'm glad to see this."

Turning off the burner, Nolan muttered a few harsh deep throated words from deep in his throat as the air did a small popping sound. Feeling his energy spin and sink into the dark tar water as it turned into steam and leaving behind a cloud of fine ash dust. Rachel had moved to gather a few cotton bags to help out the man. Turning to see the knowing smile of the older woman with a brow raised as a slight brush of heat hit her cheeks.

"It has to sit for an hour than we can start bagging," Nolan said, as Rachel turned her body to hide her flushed cheeks.

"I'll go check on the others; I'll be gone for a few hours and will be in wolf form. Just sent me a psychic message if you need anything or get news." She stated, walking out the kitchen in a rush.

Mary chuckled, "So the wolf girl huh?"

Hearing the humor in her voice, the warlock turned to the older woman, shuffling his shoulders. "Yep, she's mine."

"Blunt much Nolan? Yet your father was like this when it came to your mother if I think back in their courting days." Mary said, thinking back a bit. "Well, I'll take my leave now. Good luck warlock!"

Shaking her head, the elder walked as Max took a step in, his nose crinkling in the smell of brimstone and sour lemons hit his senses. Sunny was not going to like what the man had done to his kitchen when it came to scents, feeling a flurry of sneezes hit the wolf. Nolan turned in grabbing a few paper towels to give to him. "Sorry about the smell, I'll open a few windows. I warned Sunny this might happen Max."

Sneezing the man sat down, feeling his eyes watering a little. "Just make sure you air this place out, Nolan."

Biting back a laugh, he went to open more of the windows as Max sat down, "I owe you an apology Nolan about how I acted, what you did to save Rachel and how you're helping us."

"Don't worry about it; my kind has not been the best of friends to werewolves and a LOT of other beings. I've only met two other warlocks in my whole life. So I can understand more than you think." Nolan washed his hands, feeling Max's eyes on his back. "Back when my mom found out she was a child and it was a son, well a lot of folks told her to have an abortion."

Max felt his eyes widen, having Nolan look back him, his long hair acting a bit of a frame for his onyx eyes. "But, she said no, choosing to have and raise me. A few members of her coven left, some of her family cast her out so it was her and my six sisters and a few friends. I had a pretty good childhood, normal just with magic. Conner came into my life and I found a lifelong friend and brother. He helped me to expect what I was even more."

Max felt his stomach tighten a bit; he had said it as casually as they were talking about the rain. Tracing the dark spots of the wood from on the table, "Same-sex pairings are highly frowned upon, even forbidden by some packs even these days. Brier's father is one of the few Alphas that allow them to happen, but we are not allowed to mate. My father wanted me to mate a female I could barely stand. When Brier asked us to join and make a new pack, I and Sunny leaped at the chance. "

Nolan turned, coming to grab a rag from the sink to clean up his mess, "Makes sense seems much of our world is still back in the darker ages sadly. I had to apprentice to a warlock for 4 years to learn the finer parts of my magic. I hated the man and I still do, I refused to do the darker things he wanted, so I left a bit untrained."

"How dark?"

Pausing, Nolan felt his lips press when speaking two words "Human sacrifice."

Max shoot the warlock a look of shock, Max knew some magic users went very dark in their ways. Just to hear it claimed out load, it made him think higher of the man now calling his pack ally and friend in this time.

Max went to speak when Nolan stopped, coming to cover his ears as the high sound of glass breaking hit the air around them both. Whining, he would have put his ears back in pain if in wolf body. Then it was gone.

"What the fuck was that?"

Nolan, his eyes glowing an amber shade took his hands from his ears, all humor is gone. "They broke the wards, the Saw clan is here.  "

Note: Ok DO NOT KILL ME! Yes, it has been a while! A few months but a lot has been going on in my life. Between my car dying, losing my job and having to move again. Well, writing took a back seat a bit. This is a fuller chap a bit more, but I wanted to give a little back-story to Nolan and have Max have a bit more time!
