Forgiveness

Sonic ran trying to follow the fox. "Tails!" He yelled. Trying to make the fox stop running. Branches and leaves hit him in the face with the rain on top of it. His face was numb. "I'm not losing you this time," Sonic told himself. He suddenly came to a clearing. It was dark but Sonic noticed the cliffside. "No...." Sonic thought the worst. "He couldn't have jumped!" "Sonic! Help!" Sonic ran over to the cliffside the fox fingers slipped. Sonic grabbed Tails's hand the rain making their hands slip. "Sonic....I can't hold on..." Tails said his hand slipping through Sonic's. Sonic grabbed with his other hand making sure he had a grip. Sonic started getting dragged as well. "Sonic I have to let go." Tails said looking up at the hedgehog through the dim light from the moon. The storm had pushed away but the wind was still blowing. "I'm not letting you go Tails," Sonic said as he began slipping again. Tails looked down at the abyss below. Sonic was breathing heavily. Tails looked up at Sonic. "Sonic I need to know something." Sonic tried hoisting himself up but couldn't. He looked into those dark sky blue eyes. "Damn it Tails your not letting go." Sonic's heart hurt and a tear escaped the poor hedgehogs eye. Tails looked up into Sonic's eyes looking for a explanation. "Sonic I need to know......do you love me?" All of time felt like it froze. All Sonic could hear was his heartbeat. Sonic looked at the fox's eyes the caring, kind, beautiful eyes. He thought of all the good times they had together. They laughed,they cried, they played, they relaxed, it was always together. The moment struck Sonic that there might not be a way out of this one. "No." He said to himself. "It can't be like this." Sonic looked at Tails still frozen in time. "My best friend...." He thought of how far they had come, the journeys they had been on. Sonic knew he had tears coming out of his eyes. He felt them. Each a memory that showed love from every inch of his being. He couldn't lose Tails. There had to be some other way. He tried thinking of anything, anything at all. The words that Tails had spoken pounded in his skull. "Do you love me." All of time unfroze the moments feeling like a lifetime. "Tails..." Sonic said with tears in his eyes. "I love you. I love you more than anything...more than the green grounds to the blue skies....your my everything, you always had been it just took me a while to realize it...." Sonic looked at the blue oceans staring at him with tears. Tails kissed his free hand and reached up, pressing it against Sonic's lips. "Sonic I'll always love you. And I'll always be here with you, but right now I need you alive. The world needs you.....and I plan on the world keeping you." Tails let go. His body slowly falling into the black abyss. "Noooooo!!!" Sonic screamed trying to reach out. Tails's body was enveloped by the dark monster of an abyss. Sonic got up. Hitting the ground with his fists. "No! No! No!" He yelled. The sun had begun to rise it's light shining down all over the ground. Sonic hunched over feeling sick. Tears hit the ground like glass, each one a token of their friendship. The wind blew calmer now. All Sonic could feel was sorrow. He cried until his heart hurt, he cried until his head throbbed, he cried till his eyes were dry. He cried. There was nothing else Sonic could do. His friend, the love of his life, and his partner had just been wiped clean off the godforsaken earth. There was nothing Sonic could do but weep with his soul.
