I parked the van on the curb outside of my childhood home after a long drive back from my grandmother's house. I shut the engine off, and I close my eyes and I sigh in relief.

There were a couple of times as I was driving back here, where I thought I was going to pass out from either pain, hunger, or lack of sleep. Shit, it might have been a combination of everything. None of that matters right now. The only thing I care about is seeing Nicki again. I promised her that I would come back to her and I have done everything in my power to keep it.

I open my eyes, and I reach for the driver's side door handle to open the van door. I slowly get out of the van, wincing every so often from the pain in my ribs and my shoulder. I'm not really sure how much damage was done to my body, and if this pain persists the way it is, I may consider going to the hospital, because this pain is annoying and I don't want to deal with it anymore.

I slam the driver's door shut, and I walk around to the back of the van, heaving one of the doors open. I just want to make sure that dumb and dumber are still alive back there. When I see that they are, I just close and lock the van. I'll have Dominic come and take them out when I'm ready for them to be out. For now, they can rot in there a little longer.

I stagger up the driveway. eager to get to the front door of the house. My excitement builds the closer I get to the porch. Just a few more moments until I can hold her in my arms again. I've missed her so much.

When I reach the front door, I take a deep breath to calm my nerves and I knock on the door. I don't hear anything from inside, so I knock again, this time hearing a muffled voice come from the other side. When the door finally swings open, I am met with my wife's shocked facial expression.

"Bey?..." she whispers.

"Hey baby girl." This huge smile that I was holding back quickly beams across my face. Damn my wife is so beautiful.

"Aren't you gonna let me in." I ask chuckling a little. Nicki doesn't move or say anything. She's just standing there staring at me with no emotion. My smile quickly starts to fade when I notice that she doesn't really look happy to see me.

"Beyoncé!"

My eyes jump from Nicki's face, to Solanges' shocked but excited expression when I hear her yell my name.

"Oh my god your alive!" she says, opening the door wider and pulling me into a much needed embrace. I scrunch my face up in pain when her arm hits my injured shoulder. "I honestly didn't think I was going to see you again." She says hugging me tighter.

"Yea Solo, I'm here." I say pulling away. "I made a promise to someone that I would come back, and I kept it." I say shifting my glance back to Nicki, who has yet to acknowledge my existence, save the shocked name call. She closes and locks the front door before turning her body to face my direction, not making eye contact.

"I'm gonna go tell momma. She's going to be so happy!" Solange beams, leaving the hallway without giving me a chance to say anything else to her.

My attention is now solely focused on Nicki. "You don't seem happy to see me." I say, curious to the cause of her odd behavior. She sighs, and still not looking at me.

"I'm happy that your alive." she mumbles.

My eyebrows furrow at her direct lack of enthusiasm. "I'm sorry...am I trippin or do you really not care that I'm here?" I ask. I really am confused and lowkey hurt that there is no excitement or even a hint of happiness that I'm fucking alive and standing right in front of her.
