Amelia's POV

I pulled into the coffee shop and found Luke sitting at one of the outdoor tables. He lifted his head to look at me. "It's drive-through only."

"Oh." I said awkwardly. "Well, I have a car."

Luke laughed. "Oh, I hadn't noticed."

I blushed, thankful it was dark out. I turned around to get back into my car and noticed Luke had stayed put. "Are you coming or not?"

"Oh, uh, yeah." He shot out of his seat and jogged over to my car, hopping into the passenger seat. We drove through and ordered our drinks. I parked the car and got out as Luke followed.

"There's a park about a block away." Luke said, hinting at wanting to get out of the parking lot.

"Okay. I'm just going to leave my car here, though." I said, locking it.

We stood there, sipping our drinks before anyone actually moved.

We walked side-by-side to the park where we continued to walk. Luke broke the silence. "Earlier, when I asked you how you were doing, you said you were okay. Why are you just okay?"

I snuck a peak at him. "I mean, I know we don't know each other very well, but..." He trailed off.

I smiled smally to myself. "Yeah. I don't know... it's just been kind of a rough two years." I saw him looking at me out of my peripheral vision. "My friends kind of suck, and my parents and I don't have the best relationship and y-- other stuff." I caught myself, but I think he caught me too.

"I'm sorry." I could tell meant it for more than just the words I had shared.

I looked up at him for the first time. "Thanks."

He smiled sweetly before taking another sip of his drink. "Let's see..." He said, boisterously, clearly gaining confidence. "I was fifteen when we met, it's been two years, I am now seventeen."

"Wow, excellent math skills. Please, share with me how you figured out your own age." I said sarcastically.

He giggled, and I joined him. "If you hadn't interrupted me, I was going to figure out how old you are."

"Sixteen." I said before he could continue.

He scoffed jokingly. "Fine."

We walked in more silence, but it was comfortable. "So, Luke. He's a pretty nice guy-- good athlete."

I nodded in agreement.

"I'm in a band." Luke said, as if one-upping my boyfriend.

I swallowed hard and cringed. "Luke..." I said, quietly.

"Sorry." He apologized, but I knew I had hurt his feelings.

I spoke up after a bit. "I know you're in a band." He picked his head up. "I listen to your music..." I admitted.

"Really? That means a lot to me because I know you have really good taste in music." He spoke quickly, clearly excited.

I laughed a bit. "Thanks. You guys are getting quite popular."

"Yeah, pretty crazy. I love it so much though. It's all I've ever wanted to do." I looked over at him as he talked with his face to the sky.

I smiled as I watched him, allowing him to keep talking. "I love that people enjoy our music; I just think it's so cool, and it makes me so happy." He turned toward me and caught me staring at him. "I'm not supposed to tell anyone this, but we're going to be touring with One Direction."

Not being a personal fan of One Direction, the news didn't strike me as very extravegant right away, but then it hit me. "Are you serious? That's great! You'll get to go all over the world and experience the cultures and the people and play music for fans and..." I stopped.

"What's wrong?" He asked, concerned.

"Nothing. I'm really happy for you." I smiled at him.

"Thanks." He said quietly.

I walked over to a nearby garbage can to throw my cup away. As I walked back toward Luke, I turned my eyes to the stars. Apparently, I hadn't been paying attention because I walked right into Luke. He caught me from stumbling as he had his hands on my shoulders.

"Oh, sorry!" I said as I stepped away from him.

He sat down on a bench and looked up at the stars. "Beautiful."

"Yeah." I said quietly as I looked at him. I snapped out of my gaze and joined him on the bench, keeping my distance.

My gaze would shift back and forth from him to the stars, and I noticed he was doing the same. Eventually, our eyes met.

I squeezed mine shut as I looked away. "I have a boyfriend." I mumbled.

"I'm sorry. I don't want to come between you two or anything." He hung his head.

I laughed a bit, not able to control myself. "Sure." I said sarcastically.

"C'mon. I'm not that bad. I wouldn't want to do that to you." He said as if my response was incredulous.

"Why the sudden interest?" I raised my eyebrows.

"It's not sudden. You've always interested me... and we're older now. It'd make more sense." He said softly.

I bit my lip and closed my eyes, wishing this weren't happening. "There is no 'we', Luke." I've never wished for something to be so untrue, and I felt guilty for it.

"If it's alright with you, I'd like to at least be friends." He said, standing up from the bench.

"I'd like that too." I stood up as well.

We made our way back to my car, and his hotel was just around the corner. I offered him a ride, but he turned down my offer.

We had walked back in silence, and I regretted not asking him more about his music because the way he lights up when he talks about it is something I could watch forever.

"I'm glad we could do this." His lips formed a straight line as he held back.

"Me too." I drew my bottom lip inside my mouth, and we parted ways.

I sat in my car, running my hands through my hair. 'I love you.' I texted my Luke.

My Luke...
