"Do you need anything else, Alpha Ruby?"
"No, Claire. Thank you for my breakfast. Have a nice day at school."
I finish my toast with egg and avocado while I read the news on the internet. I don't care about what happens in the outside world but I check everything that can affect my city and its surroundings. Two years ago a stupid politician tried to build an oil pipeline in our nature reserve, fortunately I still keep some good friends in the capital that warned me in time to stop it and also I'm obscenely rich. Usually, I spend my money in things like designing better buildings for Wolfdale, but if I have to bribe a suit in order to keep them off our backs, I'll think that it's money well spent. I sigh setting my laptop aside and I look at the city through my kitchen windows while sipping my coffee slowly. I have to go to the warehouses where we keep the tents and wooden stalls since last year to make sure everything is in perfect condition before we start with the installation. The open area next to the river is being cleaned and the grass is being cut, trucks left this early this morning in order to buy supplies for the party... I'm getting the impression that I'm forgetting about something... but I don't know what it is...
"The thing you're forgetting is to take a look at the human that arrived yesterday." Rose croons softly inside my head, she's still angry with me and she's still staring at me over her shoulder like the diva she's. She hasn't ceased to pester me about that girl.
"Rose, seriously, I'm very busy..."
"I thought you'd be bursting with curiosity about the campaign of harassment against her," she cuts my sentence abruptly. "I thought you'd be enjoying the perverse pleasure of watching her suffer while your pack keeps bugging her."
"Rose, please, you know I'm not like that. I don't enjoy watching that girl suffering... I just want her to leave us alone. And my pack is also your pack." I sigh exasperated.
"I don't understand why you can't take a look at her, just for a minute. You only have to go to Grey's studio, say hello and that's all."
"Rose..." Damn wolf, she always gets her way. "Would it be all right if I go to see her, even if it's just for 5 seconds? And then you'll let me work in peace for the rest the day."
"I promise," she even lifts her right paw while showing me her fangs, smiling.
"All right, if that's all you need to wag your tail happily... what a weird mutt you're!" I tell her while I go to my bedroom and open my wardrobe's door.
"If you call me mutt once again... next time you change into your wolf form I'll pee all over your beautiful white couch."
"Rose!" I yell outraged while I put on my tight black jeans.
"No, not that one."
"What are you talking about?"
"I don't like that red T-shirt. The black one with angel wings printed on the back looks better on you. And take the black leather jacket with the golden rivets. Aren't you going to wear some make-up?"
"What the...? I'm not going to meet royalty. Can you relax, please?" Seriously, I don't understand what got into my wolf lately. "All right, I'll put a little concealer on my dark circles if you promise me to shut up."
Finally, 15 minutes later my wolf is happy enough with the way I look to let me leave my home and get on my bike: I had to change my jeans twice and let her pick out my boots but we finally succeeded in reaching agreement about my outfit. It's always easier for me to do what Rose wants than arguing with her. It takes only 5 minutes to get to Grey's studio from my penthouse so I don't really need my bike, but this way I'll be able to go directly to the warehouses later. I park beside one of the red maples that fringe the sidewalk, the street seems calm at this early hour but it's starting to get hot so I enjoy my walk while swinging the black helmet in my hand. I absolutely love this part of the city, it's the oldest and the one we started to build first. Those families which came with me and helped me from the inception of this experience live here, like Grey's grandma: they're the wolves I know better and my most trusted advisors. I can't believe that a human has dared to invade the very heart of Wolfdale...
