"Oh come on, Iselen! Two years ago you met that chick in a club when a group of friends were partying because it was Sebastian birthday, you talked to her for three hours at most and you went to her apartment and slept with her at the end of the night. You've known Ruby for exactly two weeks, where's the problem?"
"The problem is that Ruby means a lot more to me than that random girl... and I'm nervous... all this situation is overwhelming..."
"But you trust her, you sleep with her every night and she hugs you, she's the love of your life apparently and don't try to pretend that your panties don't get wet every time she smiles at you... Sex is just the next step in your relationship and a very logical one given these circumstances..."
I sigh looking at my reflection in the mirror of the tattoo studio. I've been arguing with my conscience for the last two days and it's winning the fight at this moment, its arguments are way better than mines: I can only hide behind my stupid fears, I'm scared that something goes wrong and my relationship with Wolfdale's hottie major can be ruined. What if we aren't compatible in bed? What if she says that all this is a huge mistake? What if she tells me to leave? I'd die, I couldn't live after having enjoyed this sense of security, this sense of belonging, this feeling that I've found my home, that warmth when she hugs me , happiness when se kisses me... if she snatches that from me, I'll die.
Last Saturday I made breakfast after having a shower and wearing a tank top and yoga pants from Ruby's wardrobe... I also made lunch because we spent the whole day talking and laughing, telling stories of our childhood, finding out our favourites colours (black and blue), which rock bands we both love, which is her favourite food (Italian) and Rosie's (roast chicken). She told me a lot of things about Wolfdale, how it was founded, how she brought here wolves from other packs, how the bank and administration works, how they manage to be self-sufficient and buy just a few things in the outside world. I learnt about wolves' culture, which is the behavioural pattern and my new duties as Luna... tons of information actually, but Ruby's an excellent teacher and explains things in a simple and funny way so it's easy to remember all the information later.
She walked me to my studio and I changed my clothes, then we came back to the spring fair late in the evening: we were holding hands all the time, rode the Ferris wheel, we danced... well, actually we stepped on each other's feet during the song, we ate cotton candy and she won a stuffed dog for me at the shooting gallery. It was almost like one of those perfect dates that you can see in romance movies, the only difference was that everybody stopped to say hello, kids hugged me and all of them called me Luna... and from time to time, a ginormous wolf ran into us and he lowered his head as a sign of respect. That's the weirdest thing of all and I don't know if I'll get used to it. Eventually, Ruby had to go to give their medals to the kids on the stage and also to be a judge in the chocolate cake contest. I'd be taking pictures of the kids in the meantime and then we'd be going to dinner together later.
"If we get lost in the crowd, we'll meet in front of Denise's tent." I nodded smiling because it was a good plan. Ruby leaned forward slowly and she kissed me: just a touch of lips, soft and sweet, she's always very careful and never puts pressure on me to move a step further, instead she waits for me to give her a clue of where I want to go with our relationship and what's the comfortable pace for me. But that simple peck was enough for the boys of the soccer team to burst into laughing, cheering us and clapping like crazies. The Major shot them a killer look while I blushed but they only laughed more. Ruby having a mate is a new situation for the whole city, they're happy for her of course... but I'm afraid that she'll have to listen to some jokes till they get used to see Wolfdale's tough Alpha acting like a lovesick puppy.
She went to the stage shaking her head and rolling her eyes hard and I stayed in the middle of the crowd with my camera. I was focused on adjusting the camera lens when the boys of the soccer team passed by behind me heading to the burger stands talking loud enough for me to hear them:
