Lance lead Keith back to the secret little area. The familiar smell of the warm waters filled Lance's nose. The mixture of cool morning air mixed with the sound of the flowing waterfall that surrounded them.

A safe space for Keith to practice. Lance's ice would prove fire resistance—and if not there was plenty of water in this isolated area to keep cool. Keith looked around, eyes filled with wonder and amazement, as if it were his first time there. Anxiety tugged at the monster's stomach. Twisting and bubbling and grumbling below. Maybe, Keith thought, fear is the real monster—the monster that every man, woman, and child should fear. The kind of monster that requires tales to be made in its wake. Tales that parents tell to their children to get them to behave.

Lance lead them through the cool-warm waters of the mesmerizing water fall. Though once on the other side the water on Keith's skin didn't stay long. It sizzled and lifted of his face, as if it were and invisible mask made out of clouds. Lance was still soaked.
Keith couldn't pull his eyes off of him. They were glued, stuck there for forever and more. Though Keith didn't deem that a necessarily bad thing.

"So,"
Lance started, a hint of something Keith couldn't place in his voice.
"What do you know?"

Keith thought for a second. He opened his palms face up. Lance watched him tense. Keith's shoulders raised and his eyebrows furrowed. Lance waited. And waited. He raised an eyebrow; still waiting. The black haired boy peeked open an eye, peering over at his hand. It was empty; the same as he had started. Nothing happened.
"I swear I can make flames."
Lance looked at him, eyebrow raised and a daring grin placed above his pointed chin.
"Oh yea?"
"Yea!"
Keith crossed his arms across his chest, as Lance found a odd pleasure in teasing the flaming headed male.

"Alright; I believe you."
Keith's shoulders relaxed a bit. He stopped pouting; the bright tips of his hair cooling to a steady orange.
"Look," Lance started,
"My impression is that you can't use your powers—at least not well and I want to help you." He continued,
"So let's start with the basics, okay?"
"M'kay!"
Keith sounded, cheerily. A warmness spread through his chest, fighting the seeds of anxiety that sprouted and began to bloom in his stomach. Excitement and anticipation stared to grow wildly in his chest.

Lance lowered to the cold stone ground beneath their feet. Keith walked a couple of paces forwards and did the same. He sat across from Lance; legs crossed and eager for the near future.

"Before we can do anything else,"
Lance told,
"You'll need to learn how to invoke your powers; learn how to summon them."

Keith nodded exuberantly, the tips of his dark hair set alight to a feverish orange glow; locks of his luminescent hair lurch back and forth with each nod of his head.

"Well then,"
Lance started with a little grin,
"For the last time—Let's get started."

Keith didn't say anything, his head nodded happily. The tips of his hair brightening even more. The color spread to his face, cheeks a warm hue of orange and red.
"I'm ready."
"Good."
