Crows flew around the courtyard. Hermione, Harry, Jamie, and Ron walked out to see a man who was obviously an executioner sitting beneath a small tree. He was running a rock along the edge of her cleaver. His black hood hid his face from the children, but from the little bit they could see, they figured they wouldn't like what was underneath. He watched as they walked passed, sending chills down their spines.

"I can't believe they're going to kill Buckbeak. It's just too horrible," Hermione said as they exited the wooden bridge.

"It just got worse," Ron gulped as the group came to a stop. They spotted Draco and his goons watching Hagrid's hut from behind one of the large rocks.

Hermione and Jamie looked at each other before walking towards the Slytherins. The boys followed, unsure of what their friends planned to do.

"Ah, come to see the show?" Draco asked upon seeing them approach.

"You!" Hermione yelled. "You foul, loathsome, evil little cockroach!" She took out her wand and had Malfoy pinned against the rock. The pathetic boy whimpered, clearly terrified of the witch in front of him.

"Hermione no!" Ron called after her. "He's not worth it."

"He's right Hermione," Jamie spoke up. "This scum isn't worth our time."

Hermione squinted her eyes in determination, but did lower her wand and turned to walk away.

Draco smirked at his friends and scoffed. Hermione spun around and punched the boy directly in the nose. Draco let out a yelp and fell to his knees.

"Draco are you okay?" Crabb asked as he and Goyle helped their friend up. The three of them ran away as quick as they could.

"That felt good," Hermione said, looking at her friends.

"Not good, brilliant!" Ron exclaimed.

The group continued down the path to Hagrid's hut. Hagrid smiled sadly at his little friends upon letting them enter his home.

Hagrid stood by the window, looking out at Buckbeak who laid in the pumpkin patch. "Ah, look at him. Loves the smell of the trees when the wind blows through them."

"Why don't we just set him free?" Harry asked.

"They'd know it was me. And then Dumbledore would get into trouble," Hagrid explained. "He's coming down you know, Dumbledore. Says he wants to be with me when they... When it happens. Great man Dumbledore." Hagrid turned away from the window and looked at the other three students who sat at his small kitchen table. "Great man," He repeated tossing a piece of meat to a creature in the corner.

"We'll stay with you too Hagrid," Hermione stated standing up.

"You'll do no such thing!" Hagrid ordered. "Yeh think I want yeh seeing somethin' like that? No. Now, yeh just drink yer tea and be off."

Jamie wished she could argue, but she did have to get going in a little bit. Night time would be upon them in a mere few hours.

"Oh, before you do, Ron," Hagrid walked over to his counter and opened a small tin. You could hear the squeaking of the tiny animal as Hagrid brought Ron his rat.

"Scabbers! You're alive!" Ron exclaimed as he took the rat.

"Yeh needs to keep a closer eye on yer pets Ron," Hagrid told him.

"I think that means you owe someone an apology," Hermione demanded.

"Right," Ron nodded in agreement. "Next time I see Crookshanks, I'll let him know."
