"What exactly do you mean by 'mom's home'?" I ask nervously picking at my nails.
"I mean I told her your out with Alex and won't be home till late. So if your not home by the morning before she wakes up I can't save your ass." Carter says quickly.
"Look I gotta go cause I get to hear all of moms fun" Carter says clearly annoyed before saying, "you owe me" and hanging up.
"Shit" I mutter.
"Everything okay?" Alex mutters still half asleep. "What are you doing awake?" he mumbled rubbing his eyes and grabbing his phone looking at the time.
"It's like 3 am..."
I let out a sigh before saying the two dreaded words, "moms home."
With a few curse words Alex jumped up running to the closet and throwing all his clothes in his bag and throwing all of mine in my bag.
"Come on!" he says waving me along as I sat stunned on my bed.
"Liz, we gotta go" he says gently dropping the bags and walking over to me.
"Liz?"
"Ya?" I mumble back
"Babe, come on, we gotta get you home." he says taking my hands.
"She's always the worst when she gets back from trips." I say quietly, my hands beginning to shake.
Alex sits down next to me wrapping his arms around me and holding me close until my breathing goes back to normal.
"Babe, you're going to be okay, okay?"
"Okay." I say nodding and letting him guide me out of the room and all the way to the car.
I get in the passenger seat and put my head in my hands trying to control my breathing. Alex gets in handing me his sweatshirt.
I look to him confused, "use it as a pillow, get some rest, I'll get you there before the sun rises."
I smile and let my eyes close as Alex gets on the highway.
"Babe?" Alex gently runs my arm to wake me up.
"Hmm?" I mumble.
"I'm gonna stop for coffee and restroom."
I nod and take the next ten minutes before we get to a rest stop to wake up.
"I'll get the coffee." I say with a smile. We get out of the car and Alex walks over to my side kissing my forehead and saying, "we'll get there in time."
I nod with a smile even though the stress is eating me alive.
I wait for Alex to get back and then walk to the restroom.
I splash my face with water and look into the mirror. My reflection shifts and my eyes blur.
"Alex?" I call out before loosing my balance and my vision blacks out.
I hear pounding on the door.
My name.
Then nothing.
My hearing goes in and out.
Alex is calling my name.
Then nothing
I'm in someone's arms.
Then nothing.
