THE DOUBLE

A short peak into Jackie and Liam's lives

It's been three months since I started Duke University and for the last one month, I haven't heard from Liam. His number was not going through and he wasn't even replying my messages. I could only see him on TV during his games.
I even tried calling Andy but she said she hasn't heard from him either.
I buried my head in my pillow. If anyone had told me that I'll survive this long without taking to Liam, then I would have laughed in their face.

"Don't trouble yourself too much girl... Your boyfriend is handsome, a basketball player and A Star at that...do you expect those boy eaters over there to leave him alone. Even if he comes back to you, it wouldn't be in one piece" my obnoxious roommate said with a smirk on her face.

"Not all guys are like that. My Liam wouldn't do something like that. It may just be that he's too busy" I defended.

"Yeah... Every girl thinks her boyfriend is a saint until they see the devil inside. There will always be girls who are willing to give him more than what you do" she smiled.

"What do you mean by that" I asked.
"OMG!!! Don't tell me you haven't... You know... Like... " she said in surprise.
"haven't what?" I asked confused.
"Sex!!! " she screamed
"No... and that's not a problem in our relationship"
"I bet he must not be attracted to you sexually"
"I think you are crossing some boundaries"
"If he isn't getting it from you... then he must be getting it from someone else. I don't blame the guy... You don't look like someone who can satisfy his needs" she smirked in triumph. The girl know nothing other than bringing people down but I wasn't going to let her get away with it.
"At least, I'm not a public toilet like you who any guy comes in and does his business then leaves you for the next in line" I retorted.
"Are you calling me a slut"she said in anger.
"I never said that... In fact you said it yourself"
She groaned and stormed out of the room.

My phone vibrated

Message from
Anonymous : I have an important message for you
Me: Who are you
Anonymous : That's not important... Liam's life is in danger
Me:What!!! Where is he?
Anonymous : His survival depends on you. You are not to contact the police or any of his family members. Just follow my instructions.
Me: OK fine... Tell me what to do.
Anonymous : I want you to go to the abandoned building behind your campus, then move to the fifth floor and wait for what comes next. Failure to abide is putting Liam's life at risk.
Me: Okay

As instructed, I went into the building and moved to the fifth floor.
"Anyone here" I called out
There was no reply "I did as you said so where is Liam" I said again.

Suddenly, the lights came on. The entire place was lit with lights of various colours and in between the room was a candle light table. Then soft music began to play. From a conner of the room, a guy in chef clothing emerged.
"Take your seat mam" he said gesturing to the table. As I walked towards the table I asked the chef where Liam was but he just smiled, dropped the food and left through the same door he came from.
I sat at the table still confused at what was going on.
"Hey babe" Liam's voice echoed in the room.
"Liam...is that you dear... Where are you"
Suddenly Liam hugged me from behind.  I could recognise his scent. I immediately turned to face him "Did you plan all this" I asked.

"Yes... I wanted to surprise you" he smiled.
"Yeah of course. I'm as surprised as hell. You scared the fudge out of me... Why wasn't your line going through and why didn't you reply my message... "
"I'm sorry... We were under one month thorough training without cell phones and were only allowed to come out during the game... The moment we were discharged, I took my dads private jet and came here. Life was suffocating without you. You know i wouldn't intentionally do something to hurt you" he explained.

"I missed you so much" I said hugging him tightly.

After dinner we went back to my room. He wanted to see where I live. As we entered, my roommate was about leaving.
"OMG... Liam Summers... I... I can't believe this... Can you sign an autograph for me" she said.
"of course" Liam agreed.
After signing her autograph, she happily rushed out of the room but not before she said "I'm sorry for what I said earlier"
"No problem... I'm sorry for indirectly calling you names" I replied "we're cool right " I continued
"Yeah we're cool"

We sat on the bed discussing and laughing about random things until..."Are you unhappy with our relationship because we don't have sex? " I blurted out.
"what do you mean" he asked confused
"I mean... hmmmm... Do you find me sexually attractive " I asked.
"Of course. Why would you ask something like that"
"Nothing. It's just an idea that was put in my head by my roommate"
"I'm not with you because I want to have sex with you, I'm with you because I love you and when we are ready then that can come into the picture"
"I love you too babe".

He held my hand and smiled "The past three months without you has made me realize that I don't want to spend another day without. I want to wake up with you by my side for the rest of my life. Jackie Mayer's, would you do me the honours  of being my partner for life... be my wife babe" he said bringing out a ring from his pocket.

"Yes Yes Yes... Of course yes... I'll marry You" I hugged him.
"So now you are of limits to all guys... As soon as you graduate, we'll hold the formal wedding ceremony"

Finally I got my Prince Charming and my happy ever after
