Chapter 31

My eyes were still closed but i could feel a hand moving on my face. "have i been abducted by aliens or something" i thought. I opened one of my eyes to have a peek of who was touching my face.
"i know you're awake" Katie said.
"what are you doing" i asked.
"your face got puffy from all the crying last night so she's helping you fix it" Andy explained.
"we cant let you go to prom looking like you got hit by a truck" Katie laughed.

"where's Liam" i asked scanning the room.
"he's probably with some girl who doesn't have puffy face" Katie grinned.

"My brother wouldn't do that. His not a perv like Chad" Andy laughed.

"Real mature both of you" i said standing up.
"where are you going. I'm not finished yet" Katie held my hand.

"i just need to make an important phone call. I'll be back in a jiffy".

"hello, who am i speaking with" the voice answered through the phone. The voice sounded like a middle aged man.

"its Jacqueline Mayer on the line" i replied calmly.

"Oh!!! Jacqueline .how are you"

"I'm fine. My dad left your card for me to contact you"

"He sure did my dear. I have been trying to get in touch with you but your step mom said you were dead"

"It's a long story"

"okay, were are you staying now"

"With a friend at in Jefferson city"

"Wow!!! What a coincidence. I here on a business trip"

"That's great"

"let's meet up by 10am, ill text you the address"

"Okay, thanks. See you later" i hung up.

"hey babe, who was that" Liam asked holding me from behind.

"it's the guy my dad told me to call" i replied.

"what did he say" he smiled.
"I'm meeting up with him by ten to discuss it in detail"
"should i come with you"
" No...I'll like to take care of things myself".7
"I'll see you at seven then" he kissed my forehead before leaving.

Eww... God knows all what Katie rubbed on my face and Liam just kissed it.

I took Liam's car and went to the restaurant Mr Reed told me to meet him. At least that was the name i saw on the card.

As i entered the restaurant, i realized that i didn't know Mr Reed facially so i went to the waiter.

"I'm meeting with Mr Reed, do you know where he's sitting" i asked.

"Of course. I presume you're Jacqueline"

"yes"

"Come with me" she said as she started leading me to a table where a man in black suit was sited.

"Jacqueline!!! my dear" he greeted. He acted as if we had known each other for ages.

" Good day sir" i sat down.
"Wow!!! you've grown to be just like your mum" he smiled warmly.

"You knew my mum?" i asked.

"Of course dear. Your mum and i were childhood friends. It was so sad when she passed away. I used yo come visit you guys when you were little. Don't you remember me?" he said.

"No... I cant seem to remember"

"It's me, uncle Tom" he stressed.
Just as he mentioned his last name, my memory of him came back. He always used to take me to the amusement park, we went on horse back ridding almost every weekend, a takes to the zoo once in a month. I had much fun memories with him than i had with my dad but he stopped coming after mum died. As a kid, i thought he was angry at me like my dad and that was why he stopped coming to see me.

"Uncle Tom, i cant believe this" i touched his hands " its really you" i grinned.

"Yes my dear. Its your uncle tom" he smiled.

"Why didn't you come to see me after mum did" i said as tears gathered in my eyes.
"I'm really sorry dear. Losing your mum really broke me. She wasn't just a friend to me but a sister as well. I went into solitude for two years before i could regain myself. I knew if i met you again, old memories will rekindle. Some years later, your dad contacted me and told me to take care of you even if he wasn't around. He gave me enough money to cover your college fees and told me to hand it over to you when you finished high school. I called your home few months ago but i was told you died in an accident. The news broke my heart, i regretted why i didn't spend much time with you" he said almost tearing up.

"I forgive you in fact I'm so happy that at least i still have a uncle like you" i smiled.

"why did your step mum say you were dead" he asked curiously.

"i was involved in a fatal accident that why everyone thought i was dead. I had temporary amnesia so i couldn't remember my home. I stayed with a family who thought i was their daughter because i looked exactly like their child" i said showing him Me and Andy's picture.

"wow!!! She looks just like you" he remarked and i smiled.

"i have a meeting with some clients so I'll soon get going. Your dad made me your legal guardian before he died so i think you should come stay with me in spring field" he held my hands. I didn't imagine a day would come when ill have to leave Liam to another city.
"But..." he cut me off " i don't mean like right now. When you get your admission letter then call me"

"okay" i said in relief. "do you have a child" i asked curiously.

"i have a son. His name is Evan and he's eight"
"Sorry to ask but you still have a wife right"

"yeah... My wife Theresa is a nurse"

"That's great. Can't wait them"

We said our farewells then i went back home to prep for my big night.
