P I P E R

I woke up earlier than I expected. Has Annabeth been haunting me? Forcing me to arise at the buttcrack of dawn? I wondered groggily, rubbing the sleep from my eyes begrudgingly. I combed through my hair with my fingers, thankful that my bed hair could at least be tamed at a reasonable speed.

I stood and tiptoed to a comb, brushing my hair back properly. I braided it, my fingers going through the familiar motion like it was my second nature. To finish, I stuck a bright blue harpy feather in the ends of my hair where the tie ended. I sighed and rubbed my face. Why did I ever agree to this? I wondered wearily.

Oh wait, it's because I'm freaking stupid.

I sighed and pulled on a bright orange Camp Half-Blood shirt over my tank top, deciding to leave on my shorts.

Walking outside, I began to think. Annabeth and I had decided to meet up early to ensure our plan was okay, which was a little strange since our plan was technically to make it up as we go. I shook my head slightly. "We're going to fail." I murmured, nearly bursting into a fit of nervous giggles.

All of a sudden, I felt strong arms wrap around me and I freaked out. I turned over and was prepared to hit the strange person when Annabeth abruptly popped into my vision and grinned. "Hey."

I sighed in relief before realizing how close we were, and I felt my face flush. "Oh. It's only you." I breathed. She smiled at me, loosening her grip and taking a step back. I blinked as a strange feeling coursed through my stomach, but it went away as quickly as it came as soon as my arms flopped back to my sides like limp spaghetti noodles.

I snickered at the sudden thought of Octavian I received.

Then I shuddered at the thought. Eugh. That slimy looking noodle...

I shook my head to remove the thought and cleared my throat. "So, are you ready?" asked Annabeth. I shook my head rapidly. "Nope."

She sighed. "Me neither. But you know the plan, right?" she asked. "Yeah, but... it's dumb," I complained.

"But you were the one who made it up."

"That's... irrelevant?"

"Whatever the case, all you have to do is just... pretend." Her eyes bored into mine and she was suddenly very serious. "All this for a revenge plan? I'm not so sure anymore..." I said. Annabeth rubbed my shoulder. "Me neither. Hope your acting skills are good," she joked.

I glared playfully. "My dad's literally an actor." I said. "So that's not really funny."

She laughed. "Fine, fine. Just give me the credit and let me off the hook more gently next time, alright?" she teased. "By the way, do you have a habit of waking early?" I asked. She nodded. "Yeah, why?"

"I think you gave it to me." I said with a groan. She looked at me with a blank expression. "What? Is that even possible...? Can someone transfer waking habits?" she wondered aloud. I suppressed a laugh at her strange expression. She looked as if she were in a crisis– a big one, at that.

"Wow. I always knew you were clueless, but..." I shook my head and clicked my tongue in mock disapproval. Blatantly ignoring me, Annabeth turned away. "Piper. If anyone gets suspicious, save face." she reminded. I nodded, trying very hard not to cringe at the mental image that had popped up in my mind. It's like a Russian roulette. Will I have to hug her or hold her hand while people watch? I grimaced.

"By the way, you look a lot more..." her voice faded.

"A lot more what?"

"Um, a little... neater?" she mumbled.
