P I P E R
Okay, so maybe I screamed. Maybe. It's not a given.
Anyways.
I immediately thought, I'm gonna kiss my best friend.
Gods, save me now.
Of course, I knew that my charmspeak was getting stronger (I'm so amazing, I know), and that was a good thing. But the catch was that it was getting so much harder to control. And this was a bad thing right now, as of this moment. This was, to put it bluntly, a bad situation. A very bad one.
Annabeth's eyes widened and her arms uncrossed, but her movements were robotic, and she moved with great contrast from her usual battle-honed gracefulness. Meanwhile, Jason and Percy were looking around nervously. "Uh... Piper?" Jason cleared his throat and chewed his lip, biting just before his scar. "I think she's about to kiss you." he finished. "Well, what else do you think she's going to do, Sherlock?!" I snapped back, beginning to panic. I looked at my friend, who was now walking to me as if in a trance. Which she probably was in. Lots of campers were crowded around again in interest. I saw some horrified looks. Oh, boy. This wasn't going to end well, was it?
Annabeth grabbed my shoulders and made me face her. My eyes widened. Oh no.
With all the strength I could possibly muster, I pulled away and ran. Which, turned out, was a bad idea. I had to run in circles, since nobody would let me out of the little ring they had made around us. And Annabeth was fast.
One thought poked the edge of my mind, though.
Annabeth Chase is chasing me.
I resisted the heavy urge to cackle like a witch, in the light of my current situation.
Jason and Percy had stepped back, leaving more room for me to run around. I knew I should tell her to stop, but I couldn't form any words. Everyone looked slightly worried now, but I caught Drew at the corner of my eye and saw her smirk lightly. I have never physically wanted to punch someone's face so much before.
Suddenly, a weight wrapped around me– Annabeth's arms.
Oh gods.
Annabeth made me face her, her grip stronger, firmer, this time. I tried to back my face away from her, and I licked my dry lips and swallowed in order to try and form words.
"Stop?"
It sounded more like a question then an order to me, but that was all I could get with my crackly voice and concerned feelings. Annabeth's beautiful gray eyes glittered in the sunlight and she grasped my shoulders firmly. She's strong. Another huge disadvantage.
She leaned in closer to me, and before I knew it, my eyes widened and my heart pounded– whether it was in fear, panic, or just nerves, it didn't matter anymore.
"STOP!" I finally yelled, ignoring the slight tremble in my voice. It was so strong people around me froze in place and then looked around confusedly. Dang, talk about charmspeak control. Maybe I need more practice...?
Annabeth released her grasp on my shoulders in daze. "Wait, what?" she asked. Then she looked at me. "Wait, seriously, what happened?" she asked, looking at other campers before settling her gaze on me. I tried to stop my hands from shaking harder than they already were, clasping them into fists.
However, Annabeth was smart. Of course she would be, she's a child of Athena. Would anyone expect anything else?
Her hands found mine, and she gripped them tightly, reassuringly, but my heart was still racing. Her eyes, her silvery gray eyes, they shone like the moon, staring at me with such an intensity that I nearly looked away. "Piper?" she questioned tentatively. I blinked– once, twice, then shook my head. "I'm fine." I muttered, eyes darting to the ground. She sighed in relief. "I'm sorry, Piper. That was really..." she paused for a moment, looking away into the distance, as if searching for the right words. "That wasn't a very smart thing to do to you, Piper."
That was alright.
I didn't need to hear the exact words to know that Annabeth was apologizing to me. Her tone of voice, the concerned glint in her eye, it spoke for itself. The crowd was slightly breaking apart now, muttering amongst themselves.
"It's alright, Annabeth. Uh... that hasn't happened before." I said. That really hadn't happened before. What, exactly, did happen?
She brushed a strand of blonde hair from her eyes. "I know that wasn't as controlled as we're all used to, but your charmspeak is strong." she said, tilting her head in what seemed like an almost puppy-like way. She let out a laugh– one most likely stemming from nervousness more than actual amusement. I felt my brows scrunch together for a split second as I wiped that thought from my brain. Annabeth? A puppy? Seriously?
My mind whisked back to the topic at hand, and I mentally face-palmed. "How are you being so calm? I literally just almost accidentally made you– you know, like, kiss me!" I hissed sharply, cheeks flushing in embarrassment. At this, her cheeks tinged slightly pink, but her gaze softened with a strange sort of understanding. "You're my friend, Piper. In fact, maybe even my best friend. Besides Thalia, of course. But really, it's fine, I shouldn't be worried over that mistake." She paused. "And, I'm counting on it to not happen. Again."
I shivered before nodding quickly. This was Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena– I was lucky to be let off with just a stern warning.
I forced a smile and she put a hand on my shoulder gently, as if she knew I wasn't satisfied with that answer at all.
"Piper?" she asked. I tilted my head. "The plan starts tomorrow." she ordered. I nodded, exhaling. "Okay."
I watched a few strands of her blonde hair blow out crazily in the breeze, waving like a falling leaf in autumn. As I watched it flap in the air, nearly hitting her face, I decided that the feeling of hair slapping your face was not very satisfactory (based off my own experiences, of course). Reaching out, I prayed she wouldn't think I was being weird, and I tucked it behind her ear. "Sorry," I mumbled. "It was all over your face. Y'know, I don't like the feeling, it's like... rough." I rambled.
After a minute of silence, she cleared her throat softly. "I thought the thing started tomorrow?" she tried to joke. I turned pink and she laughed, giving me no other choice than to laugh with her, albeit awkwardly. "Annabeth?" I asked. She looked at me questioningly. "You know, since, literally everybody is out, can I... visit your cabin?" I asked. Her eyes suddenly lit up. "Sure! I mean, of course you can, Piper. Who else would I let in?" she asked, walking me to the cabin. I smiled. "Thanks. And sorry for the little incident," I said. "No problem. After all," She rubbed my shoulder gently.
"What's the harm in a not-so-bad mistake?" she asked, a smirk twitching the sides of her lips.
I thought about it. Hmm.
Hold on, what?
