A N N A B E T H
I let Piper into the cabin. Malcom and the others were...
Well, they were somewhere.
I didn't really keep track of them. I know, I know. You're probably like, Annabeth, no! So irresponsible! But I had my reasons.
The only reason I allowed them to wander around without me knowing was because I knew what they did. Besides, none of them really had the potential of destroying the whole camp. I mean, I would be lying if I said that I didn't believe they could wreck the camp if they really put their minds to it, but I was 99.9% sure that they wouldn't.
The point was, they were all smart and self-sufficient. I had no real reason to worry.
Piper stepped in and I watched her colorful eyes scan the place. "I'm sorry, I know it's messy." I said, suddenly slightly self conscious about the mess of material scattered around the area. She looked at me with a face of disbelief. "Are you kidding me? Compared to the Aphrodite cabin, which has clothes and cosmetics in literally every single corner, this looks like heaven." she snickered. I smiled in response.
"So, the game plan." I said. She looked at me. "Um, we're doing this tomorrow, right? Because if we did this now, people would think it's weird because of what just happened." she mentioned. I nodded. "That's why we're doing this later." I said. "But the event that happened earlier could also be used in our little made-up backstory. You know, to keep it believable." I finished.
Piper looked at me thoughtfully before nodding. "Hmm. Smart," she muttered. I nodded nonchalantly. "Well, I'd hope so." I mumbled in response.
There was a mild pause before the other girl spoke again. "Do you really think this will work?" she asked. I sighed. "I mean, it should. But I'm kind of getting second thoughts. There are just so many possibilites," I mused. "What if someone gets suspicious? What if Jason and Percy tell everyone about this?" My mind started to race. "What if someone wants us to... ah... oh." I shut my mouth and couldn't stop myself from turning pink.
Piper looked at me weirdly. "To... what?" she asked. "Uh, nothing." I mumbled. "Come on," she whined softly. I shook my head. "Anyways... Moving on," I hurried on quickly, but to no avail. Piper hummed. "Hold on. We aren't talking about anything else until you tell me what you were gonna say," she commanded. I sighed in defeat.
"Um... well, the thing." I said uncertainly. Piper looked at me exasperatedly. "What thing?" she asked. "Well, uh..." I began hesitantly. Piper threw her hands up into the air. "Come on, Annabeth." she whined. I swallowed. Well, at this point I've got nothing to lose. Nervously, I leaned in close to the other girl's ear. "I said, what if someone asks us to kiss in front of them?" I whispered.
To be honest, I had no idea why I whispered. We were the only two in the cabin at the moment, but it felt more secure to stay quieter.
Piper's eyes shifted color. Then her face turned pink. "Oh. Um... I don't know what we'll do about that..." she said, her eyes dropping to the floor. "But what are the odds, Annabeth? Come on." said Piper. I shot her a look, ignoring the heat on my cheeks. "The odds are still a possibility," I chided.
A dreadful realization dawned on me. "And now the odds in question are probably like 100% now because you mentioned it. Piper, your mother is torturing us." I muttered. She sighed. "Every day, Annabeth. Every day."
I rubbed my right temple with my index and middle fingers. "Fine, well, about that issue. We'll have to just.... fake it?" I suggested. She looked at me with a sigh. "And how, exactly, are we going to fake it?" she asked. I shrugged. "I guess we'll have to practice later." I said absent-mindedly. Piper turned crimson.
