Running out of time

Chapter 20. Lucy - my state

I was using my ability... I was so shocked.
Everything felt like it was in slow motion. One minute Roy had knocked about two dozen plates and they were about to fall into both of us, and in the heat of the moment I threw my hands in the air and willed the plates to stop. The scary thing is they did. I'm pretty sure that I was the one who stopped them from falling on us.

"What happened?!" Juliette rushed over to us. She saw the plates hovering in the air and my arm outstretched and probably realised what happened. "I'm so proud of you! That's amazing, keep them in the air and let me re-stack them"
"I'm not sure I can hold them that long"
"Sure you can, just close your eyes and will yourself to keep them up"
"O-ok" I closed my eyes.

When I opened them again I felt different. Then I noticed everyone staring at me with their jaws dropped and their eyes wide open. There weren't any plates in the air. They were back on the shelf neatly stacked. Then I realised that my hands were snow-white. And there was a curling blue strand of ribbon twirled around my arm and into my hand. I looked at the shiny sink to see my reflection and I was wearing a long pastel blue dress which was longer on one side. A turquoise broach held the top layer to the layer underneath. It was beautiful. My hair was completely white, it almost blended in with my skin except a long blue strand on the left side. I looked so different, I was sure that my hair was longer and I've grown taller.
"What happened?" I asked Juliette
"Y-you've transformed" she looked surprised "This is your state"
"State?" I asked
"I've never seen a newly fully transform into their state, but I guess that Jet was right for once, you guys are special, let me tell you" after she finished telling us about our states I looked at my hands. I felt so much power. Why?
"Will I always stay like this?"
"No, you won't, you should turn back soon. In the future you will learn how to control your state"
"Why are we wasting our time here?" Ben piped up. "Shouldn't we be training so we can unlock our states too?"
"No"
"In a minute a FSC member will come to speak to all the newlys, everyone should go into the hall, I'll stay with Lucy until she changes back"
"Don't walk in while Master Ruth's talking, I'll knock on the door at any available time to come in" suggested Jet
"Good idea, thanks"
"No problemo!" He smiled which made Juliette blush. When he closed the door I took juliette's hand "you like him" she turned red. "We used to have this on/off relationship a while back..." She trailed off
"So, are you on or off now?"
"Off" she insisted firmly. Yeah right.

When I finally turned back into normal Lucy, I walked back into the hall with the permission of Jet's signal. Juliette went off to talk with him. I smiled on the inside.
"Lucy!" Anna called. "Master Ruth told us to fill in these forms, here's yours" she handed me a pen to go with the form. "Thanks" I took the form and scribbled down the details I needed to. When we were all done our guardians took our form and gave them to a "senior teaching official" or whatever that is.

"Roy?" A voice called. Roy turned around. Then they ran to each other arms open and welcoming. The voice was a girl. A very beautiful girl. Something in my chest started to ache. Why did it hurt so badly? "Avery?" Roy looked stunned. I shook my head, who was this 'Avery'? Anyway!

Anna looked at me, then at the two then back at me. Her hands jumped to her mouth as she kneeled down next to me. "Your jealous, Lucy is jealous!" Oh no.
"Quit it!"I snapped "I'm not jealous of anything" Anna wriggled her eyebrows and nudged me on the shoulder. I pushed her away in defiance and tried to focus on something else, but then I saw Juliette talking to jet and my spirits lifted. One way or another, these two were meant for each other.
