I stumbled out of the bathroom and pulled on a jacket. Lucy just shook her head. "Why did they make us come here?" She asked
I shrugged, to be honest, I didn't know, none of us did, but not one of us tried to escape.

We met Ben and Roy downstairs in the lunchroom where, ironically, we had breakfast but it just meant we had some privacy and could talk to each other without any other Newlys listening in.

"This has been a crazy few weeks huh?" Roy spoke up. None of us talked until this point. Everything was just moving too fast. Suddenly Lucy dropped her fork onto her plate, the metallic clanging ringing in the empty hall. She whispered sorry under her breath. I looked at Ben who just played around with his food. I cleared my throat and looked at Roy "Yeah" I concluded. "Everything's wrong" Ben piped up "We were on Earth a week ago, how does that happen?" he demanded his eyes searching for answers. Lucy held back tears as she buried herself into her jumper. "Look, we may not want to be here but we don't have a choice" Roy began, "They told us we were special-"

"No, they told us we were different" I interrupted

"Anna," Roy said

"No, we don't even know each other-"

"Did you not feel that connection at the park?" Asked Ben angrily slamming his glass on the wooden table.

"Look, this may not be Hogwarts but It's our reality and we just have to deal with that" Roy interjected

I looked away.

"Students gather around" A loud voice thundered. Every single student started gravitating towards Master Ruth in the gardens. Here there were stainless white benches parked in rows facing a small podium.

Master Ruth cleared her throat threatening us to talk over her. She smiled when the chatter was silenced. Tracing a long finger across the wooden podium Master Ruth stared at us in silence. She glanced at the various adults surrounding her before looking back at us. The silence was deadly, so deadly that you could hear the footsteps of a little bug. The silence was suffocating.

"Students" her voice erupted across the elegant garden. "We will meet here every other Thursday morning" she nodded to one of the members of the FSC "On earth, there are people disappearing all over the world. We have information that so far there are, four people from Uganda; 7 people from Venezuela;9 people from Saudi Arabia; 13 people from Sweden; 17 people from china; 21 from France; 24 from the UK; 27 from Australia and finally, 32 people from the USA. That adds up to 150 people all around the world who have disappeared in exactly the same way over the past few weeks" she rapped her fingers over the wooden podium. "Now, you may be wondering why I'm telling you this, the fact is, it's now your job to find out what's happening and how to stop it" I watched as mouths fell open and eyes bulged out of their sockets. I had a tingle run down my spine as I exhaled, why was I so excited. I liked sideways at Lucy, Ben and Roy. All of them were showing signs of being excited. Lucy glanced back at me with a warm smile.

"Tomorrow morning I expect everyone to be up by 6:30 at the latest. You'll find a note pinned to your door giving you your timetable, don't be late" and with a flourish, master Ruth exited the stage, her flowing gown trailing behind her. Before anyone had the chance to talk one of the adults stepped onto the podium.

"My name is professor Daymer, I might be teaching some of you in Magic and potions class. I'm here to inform you that we have received word from our scouts that it isn't safe to return to earth". The man gripped the side of the podium. Everyone looked shocked. There were ripples of murmuring students growing louder until The Schoolmaster raised her hand. A hush fell over the crowd. I averted my attention back to Professor Daymer.

"As Newlys, you are usually not involved in any field work, however, we are wearing thin and our soldiers are in dire need of assistance. A group of you will be tasked with your first mission" The professor paused. He looked uneasy as he pushed his glasses further up his nose. "You will find out why people are walking into darkness and never stepping out".  The crowd seemed to share nervous looks as we all began to understand the gravity of the situation.

"We're untrained, how can they expect us to already go on missions?" I whispered to Lucy. She didn't respond, she didn't even look my way, it was as if she were trapped in a daydream.

The professor cleared his throat. "Magic and potions class will be mandatory every day  to every newly until we put together a team. I know this may be frightening, but this is what you are all training for".  Professor Daymer glanced at Master Ruth before stepping down from the podium.

"You are dismissed" Master Ruth thundered.
