Josh's P.O.V:
Damnit.... I got caught this time. I've been stealing flowers to put on my mother's grave for a few weeks and this time I got busted by the hot guy who owns the garden. He asked me why I stole the flowers and I told him I was giving them to someone very special. He then demanded to come with me to 'ensure the girl is pretty enough to warrant flower theft'... I can't find the words to tell him we're on the way to a cemetery.
"So, what's your name?" he asked, as we trudged through the long grass.
"Josh. Josh Dun," I replied, running a hand through my (favourite Josh hair colour) colour hair.
"Well, Josh. Josh Dun, I'm Tyler. What do you like to do besides steal my flowers?" Tyler asked, as we turned the corner.
"Well, I like to play drums... and that's about it really. What about you?" I asked, twirling a flower stem around my calloused fingers.
"Um... I play piano, ukulele, write songs and I like doing backflips off my piano," Tyler giggled, which made me laugh... until he asked another question.
"So, where does this chick of yours live?"
I felt my throat fill with metaphorical cement and swallowed three times before I could speak again.
"Um... just over here," I said, pointing towards the cemetery... that was half- hidden by a load of houses.
"Oh cool. What's her name?" he questioned. Every word he spoke just made my fingers curl tighter around the fragile stems.
"L-Laura," I choked out, leading him through the gaps in the houses towards the looming gates that seemed endless as they reached towards the sky, their metal skeletons sending chills down my spine.
"Wait, Josh... are you saying your girlfriend is dead?" Tyler exclaimed as we got closer and closer to my mother's grave. I said nothing but dropped to my knees beside it and cleared the dirt off her nameplate.'Here lies Laura Lee Dun. A loving mother, wife and friend. May she forever rest in peace.'
I felt tears welling up, the hot liquid spilling down my cheeks as I lay the flowers on the grave.
"Hi Momma," I whispered. I felt Tyler kneel down beside me and put an arm around my shoulders.
"Dude... I'm so sorry. I wish I'd known," he muttered, as my shoulders shook, tears falling onto the cement.
"It-it's o-o-kay. I should h-h-have told you," I stuttered, trying to regain my breath. Tyler pulled me into a hug as I tried to calm myself down.
"She didn't really accept me, but I still visit her every day," I said when we pulled apart."Why didn't she accept you? You're her son!" he exclaimed, looking at me in disbelief.
"I'm gay," I replied, turning to him.
"Really? So am I! But that's no reason to not accept you. Your sexuality is a part of you. It's not like you can change that. It's like telling you to change your facial structure. Not possible. So why dwell on it? Push past it, accept people for who they are and move on," he grinned, pulling us up."True," I smiled, wiping away a few tears.
"You know, you're cute when you're smiling," Tyler said, which made me blush.
"Damn... you're even cuter when you're blushing!" he exclaimed which caused me to bury my face in my hands.
"I'm sorry... I'm so single," Tyler muttered.
"It's okay. Do you wanna grab some Taco Bell with me?" I asked, coming out from under my hoodie."Are you asking me on a date?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow at me.
"If you want it to be a date, it's a date," I grinned.
"It's a date. Let's go!" Tyler said, grabbing my hand.
"Hold on," I said and kneeled back down in front of my mother's grave."I love you Mom," I whispered, pressing a kiss to my hand and placing it on the grave. Then, I got back on my feet, took Tyler's hand and together we walked out of the graveyard.
"You can steal flowers from my garden any time you want Josh," Tyler whispered in my ear before pressing a kiss to my cheek.
"Okay," I whispered back, pressing a kiss to his.--
Love you, stay alive, stay safe, stay strong.
