the sunlight had seeped through the sheer curtains of jae eun's room.

"ugh, what kind of dream was that?"

she questioned as she unraveled herself from her blanket. she then headed to the bathroom for her morning routine and picked out casual clothes for a visit to the convenience store for breakfast.

when she was ready to leave, she picked up her keys and slipped her feet into her adidas shoes. she would have opted for slippers but the weather was too cold for her bare feet.

jae eun unlocked the door and exited her apartment.

to her surprise, jihoon was still knocked out right outside her door.

"excuse me, miss. he has been here since last night. do you know him? please ask him to stop creating a ruckus."

jae eun bowed to the middle-aged woman as she apologised profusely.

"park jihoon. get up."

she whispered as she shook him, but not enough to scare him.

"park jihoon."

he was still knocked out as jae eun shook him, harder this time.

this was when she had closed the distance between their faces and she observed his facial features.

his lips had turn purple and visible cracks were on his bottom lip. his nose had turned red and his face was freezing.

"jihoon, are you okay? oh my god."

jae eun had been unable to wake him up, hence why she was currently on her way to the hospital nearby. jihoon's right arm was around jae eun's shoulders as she mustered all her strength to drag him there.

"hello. this guy right here is sick and i think he requires some help."
"are you his girlfriend?"
"what? no."
"we need a family member or close friend to be here to sign the documents."

jae eun had racked her brains for some ideas but to no avail. she paced back and forth in front of the emergency room before something struck her mind.

"excuse me, nurse. i'm the patient's girlfriend. can i sign the papers?"
"yes of course."

she submitted the signed papers before returning to the waiting area in front of the room jihoon was in. she placed both her hands on her face, as she felt frustrated.

why did he sleep outside the whole night?
does he really not have a place to stay at?

a sigh was heard as the doctor exited the room.

"miss, are you park jihoon's family?"
"yes. how is he now?"
"his fever temperature is high, but he's currently on a drip. he will stay here for a night. please file in the necessary hospitalisation documents. you can go in and see him now."

jae eun said her thanks as she rushed in to see a frail jihoon laying on top of the hospital bed. his heartbeat was steady on the monitor and the beeps sounded the entire room.

he was conscious but appeared to be in a daydream.

"jihoon?"

his head turned towards the direction of the door. he managed to force out a smile as he greeted jae eun.

"what are you doing here?"

she scoffed but managed to swallow back her insults.

"i brought you here. are you feeling better?"

jihoon's eyes widened slightly as he looked at jae eun from top to toe.

"you? this small-looking girl?"
"yes of course. you were outside my house."

this was when realisation struck jihoon.

"oh. sorry. i had nowhere else to go."

jae eun's heart softened as she realised how jihoon's glimmer in his eyes had disappeared.

"thank you. but you can go now. i'm fine."

jae eun decided to pour him a cup of water before taking a seat by his bed.

"why aren't you leaving?"
"you can s-stay at my house."
