9.
Winter Blade makes a fire while Sam rubs his arm and winces. I giggle and Sam glares at me, but I just laugh even more. It begins to grow dark so I skin and cook the squirrels with my arrow tips. Sam is hesitant at first but he eventually eats as well.
"Winter, aren't you hungry?" Sam asks.
"I'm fine," he says.
"Why do you wear a mask all the time any ways? Isn't it hot under there? You could just take it off and have a bite. It really tastes good. It's golden brown just like you like it-".
"Do you ever stop talking Samantha?" asks Winter.
"Yes Samantha, do you ever shut up?" I ask teasingly.
"Ya'll really hate me don't you?" says Sam.
"You're too easy," Winter says.
While me and Sam feasts Winter Blade sharpens his swords. There's an awkward silence only interrupted by the sound of metal and sparks. Winter looks at both of us. However, it's still weird I can't see his eyes. Blade decides to break the silence.
"So when did you two fall in love?" he asks pointing his sharp swords at us. My stomach flips.
"What!" me Sam yells at the same time.
"I don't love-" I begin.
"How can you think-" starts Sam.
"We're not in love!" We both say.
"Aw, did cupid shoot you with her love arrows Samantha?" Winter asks Sam, I mean, Samantha.
"No! I do not love her," he says defensively.
"You really expect me to believe you two don't love each other. Look at yourselves. It's pretty clear you have feelings for each other," he says.
"Ha! You're the one who carried Cleo here," says Sam arrogantly.
"Because you believe in girl cooties," says Winter.
"No! You insisted!"
"Last time I checked you where screaming, 'Cleo!' 'Oh Cleo, don't die on me!'" Winter says perfectly mimicking Sam's voice.
"Liar! I did not!" Says Sam who glances at me.
"Wait, wait, and wait. Who, exactly, carried me?" I interrupt.
They both point at each other quickly. This defeats the purpose. I stare at them trying to figure out who is lying, but I can't see Blades face and Sam is really good at hiding his expressions.
"Okay. One more time, and this time no lying. Who. Carried. Me." I say slowly.
The results are the identical. But I just stand up and walk to my bed. I've been through enough today. I do not have time to waste with them when I could be sleeping.
However, I haven't noticed the sky turn a deep blue. The moon shines brightly over the clouds. I slump down in my bed and doze off. I still hear Sam and Winter fighting, but from what I'm hearing Blade is winning.
Of course. . .
