17.

I miraculously find out how to work what humans call a shower and find out that my hair is softer and more manageable when it's washed and dried with different colored liquids. I blush when I see Sam come into the "living room" so clean and good smelling. I blush even more every time I see Luke. I still don't know why he hugged me in the bathroom, but every time he smiles at me or winks at me Amy glares at him and he immediately stops. Why are males so weird?

We sit down at a "table" and Luke sits down next to me. I try my best not to look at him but I can feel him looking at me which makes me feel even more anxious. Amy sets down a dish in front of us. On it is chicken, or so I think. I look at it quizzically. Then I remember what Winter said and immediately lose my appetite.

"It's chicken," says Sam who is sitting next to me.

"And that white mush is a sorry excuse for mash potatoes-"

"Shut up Luke and eat your dinner before I stuff it down your throught," interupts Amy and glares at him.

"Yes, my lord," he mumbles and quickly begins to eat with a metal rod with four dull spikes at the end.

I pick mine up and look at it. What in the world ii mash potatoes? Anything mashed mustn't be good. Goodness, I don't want them to think I'm stupid.

I push the circular dish away and study my fingers. Sam looks at me sympathetically.

"Arent you hungry Cleo," says Amy, chewing on a piece of wing.

I shake my head and frown.

"Aw, come on Cleo. It taste like heaven. . .somewhat," Luke says and puts his hands under the table.

"She's isn't used to food like this," says Sam.

There's a long silence. Then I feel a hand on my leg and I flinch.

"What's wrong?" says Luke with a smile on his face. Is he. . .

I shake my head and gaze at the table. The hand squeazes my leg lightly and I feel my face turn red. Why is Luke-

I hear a thump and Luke winces, and immediately removes his hand from my leg.

"I swear Luke. If you don't stop harassing Miss Feathers I'll kick your freaken little-"

There's a knock on the door and Luke races to the door. He grabs my hand and pulls me out of my chair on the way. He opens it and we're greeted by an older looking version of Amy. She smiles curiously.

"Well isn't this a surprise! And who is this beautiful young lady?" The woman asks and smiles at the fact that Luke is holding my hand. I look at the ground.

"Hey mom. This is Cleo, my new girlfriend!"

My cheeks flush and Sam choaks on his dinner. Amy looks like she's about to explode.

"Oh, my! Luke, you're just apullin' them in aren't you," she says and walks in, placing three brown bags on the kitchen counter.

"Yep! So how was work?" He says and walks, his hand entangled in mine, to the dinner table. I begin to feel dizzy and Sam gets up immediately and grabs my other hand, pulling me away from Luke. He heads toward the door.

"Please excuse us Mrs. Walker. I need to talk to Cleo for a minute. It wont be long," he says and we walk outside. It's late afternoon and I hear distant noises of cars. I shiver in my tank top and mini shorts.

Sam looks me into the eyes and sighs.

"I think we should leave Cleo," he says plainly.

I look at the ground. "Why?"
