Curiosity mounting his head to an extreme level he sat in the cab waiting to be dropped to his in-law's place. It's been three days since his meet with Pari; he hadn't heard from her. Taking it as the cue of her wanting space to think of her decision to let him in, he didn't disturb her but now that earlier in the morning he received her father's text asking him to summon at their house, he felt giddy.
His eyes fixated on the huge trees, and cliffs circulating the area. Dehradun was a remarkable sight in the sun. The weather as enchanting as the smile of the newborn baby, the air as refreshing as the way his wife was living her life independently. He was happy; really happy and proud of her but the shocking point was he missed her more than he missed his mother.
It was new for him to feel that way, but he knew that his presence didn't bothered his wife anymore. She was over him as a wife; but he'd only started to see her as his wife now. And now he would do enough for her to get over him even as her tormentor so that she could live her without any regrets of not being able to do anything for their marriage. Though, her efforts would always be high in terms of him, but he'd give it a try.
What was an end for her, it was a beginning for him.
"Sir, you look quite disturbed. Is there a serious problem?" The cab driver who was a pretty friendly man observed Sameer since the second he got inside the car. The dark circles under his eyes confirmed that he hadn't slept peacefully for days now, and being curious as ever, the man sort to gain his attention.
"Ammm....yes and no..," Sameer replied not knowing what else to even say to a stranger.
The man gave him a smile from the rear-view mirror, and started, "You know Sir, what is the one thing we males can't ever understand fully?"
"What?"
"A woman."
"How did you know that I've a woman problem?" Appalled to be caught, Sameer asked shifting his full attention to him.
"It's written all over your face that you're caught in some dire issue." Came the logical reply and sighing, Sameer rested his back on the back rest and closed his eyes, debating on whether to share his problem with a stranger or not.
"Actually, I'm caught between two women. Not one." He started after a long pause.
"My mother and wife. One has hurt me, and I've hurt the other even when she had nothing to do with the mess of my life. She was innocent, but she became the victim of my suppressed anger." He said imagining Pari's pale face in front of his eyes which pleaded him for love every now and then.
"Complicated because both are important for our existence. One gives us birth, and the other holds us when the world is busy conspiring against us." The driver replied as a fact, and Sameer opened his eyes to once again look out of the window.
"I don't know what the actual problem with you is, but I think whatever it is, you should open up to the one whom you think can understand you the best."
The driver said halting the car in front of the porch of Pari's residence; paying him, Sameer showed his gratitude for his little advice and made his way to knock the door only to see the door open while his in-laws were standing glaring at him.
Confused, he looked at his mother-in-law who banged the door shut once he was inside.
She marched up to him, and without another thought, she gave him a slap right across his cheek, shocking him. It was more powerful than all the slaps Pari had showered on him till date.
But why did she slap him now when he didn't even do anything?
"You monster what did you do now? She isn't opening the door since yesterday evening. Why did she lock herself? What did you told her that evening that got her so worked up?" The woman accused angrily making him gasp; he turned his attention to the room door and instead of correcting the woman, he rushed to the door, and started banging on it insanely.
