The Only Reason

I don't know why I was at his doorstep waiting for him to answer the door.

I don't know why I had texted him saying I'd come.

I don't even know why I still had feelings for him.

"Hey! You came." Ashton said trying to sound surprised.

"Yeah, yeah. Can we get this over with?"

Ashton saw that I wasn't here because he told me to.

"What's the rush? If you didn't want to come you know you didn't have to, right?"

I turned around to see his green eyes staring into mine.

"Fuck."

"Seriously. What's wrong with you?"

"Don't pretend like you don't know Ash! You left me for some other girl!"

I could feel my face turn red as he sighed in realization.

"You don't understa-"

"Oh I do understand. You got bored me, once again and then decided to make out with some other girl!"

He stared at the floor as if he had no other excuse for what he did.

"I knew it."

I stormed out the house and to the door when he put his hand on my waist and smashed his lips into mine. I felt the fire run through my veins as I let go of the door knob and got lost into his lips.

It felt so right doing the wrong thing. But as impossible as it was, I just wanted to be with him.

"I can't"

"What do you mean you can't?" He asked.

"I can't live like this anymore! You fall in love with me one day, and the next you go and break my heart!"

I pushed him away from me and opened the door to get to my car. I started the car as I saw Ashton run out the house to confront me and convince me to stay with him.

I got away.

And this time I was staying away. I was going to Alex's house since I had no plans for a heartbreak today.

"Lilly?" Alex creaked the door open to see me on the porch.

"Yeah. Um, is it okay if I come in?"

"Uh, yeah. Of course."

I needed someone to be there for me. And if anyone was going to be that person it was going to be Alex.

"So what brings you here today?" He said jokingly.

"Well I heard that Reece was having a party and I was wondering if you wanted to-"

"Be your date as a substitute for Ashton?"

He knew where I was going with this.

"Hey! You're not a substitute for Ashton."

"Yes I am. And you know it too. You originally wanted him to go with you. And since you guys broke up -again- you can't find anybody else so you came to me."

Dammit.

"Okay....So maybe that's the true story. But at least I asked you...?"

I felt so bad right now. Like that time I left him for Ash.

"That's it. I'm done with this shit."

Alex got up from his spot on the couch and started to walk upstairs when I got up too.

"Wait." I called.

I ran over to him and kissed him. I've been a real asshole to him and I was sorry for that. I wanted to make it up to him.

"Do you wanna go on a date that we both know we're on?" I asked him.

He responded with more.
