HANNAH
I walk fast to Summer's place, I don't really know why I'm going there, but after what happened with Ashton yesterday I had spent the whole day doing nothing but thinking and crying and I realized that that wouldn't help me in anyway. I gotta do something, anything.
I knock on the door and don't wait for her to open it, that was never very necessary, we could simply let ourselves in each other's place.
"Sum?" I call when I don't see any sign of her in the living room.
It takes a while till I get some answer, and when I do, it's not quite what I expected. A blond head shows up in the kitchen counter, with red cheeks and a shy smile.
"Hey, she's not here yet" He says, coming out of the kitchen and standing awkwardly in front of me "I'm Luke by the way, her... friend" He pulls a face when the word comes out of his lips.
I nod "Yeah, I know" I tell, recognizing his face from high school. I remember him hanging out with Summer all the time back then. What the hell was he doing here? "I'm Hannah, you know me from school"
He raises his eyebrows and gives me a wide and pretty smile "Oh, that's right. You used to hang out with Sum and Ashton. It's cool to know that you guys' friendship last so long. I actually saw Ashton one of these days, you're still really close, aren't you?"
"You saw Ashton?" I ask, surprised.
"Yeah, he came over to see Summer and I happened to be here too"
I stay in silence for a while, processing things. So Ashton knows Summer's seeing Luke again, I wonder what he thinks of that.
"She must be here soon" Luke says, taking me off my line of thought "We're supposed to have dinner but she ended up getting late and told me I could wait here"
"Oh, alright. I wanted to talk to her but I'll just do it some other time then, don't want to bother you two" I say and start heading the door again.
"No, it's fine. Stay and wait for her, I don't mind, it's not like the restaurant is going anywhere" He laughs, shrugging.
I smile at him "It's okay, is not important anyway. But we should tottaly have dinner sometime, all four of us, you, Summer, Ash and I, what do you think?"
"Sure, it'd be great"
I nod, not being able to avoid a wide smile to form on my lips "I'll arrange that then" I open the door to let myself out "I'll get in touch through Summer"
"Okay, bye Hannah"
"See you Luke" I close the door behind me.
I guess fate helped me out in figuring what to do about my two old friends. The fact is, every friendship has problems, but every problem's got a solution.
LUKE
I allowed myself to watch some TV while waiting for Summer and I was watching some really stupid reality show when she arrived.
"Are you asshole dirtying my beautiful center table with your filthy feet?" She asks, narrowing her eyes with a smirk.
I laugh at her "My feet are cleaner than yours"
She pretends to be offended, sitting next to me on the couch and putting her own feet above the table "That was mean. What are you watching?"
"I don't know and I don't care, is horrible" I say, turning to face her and turning off the TV "You got me starving girl"
She laughs, but when she looks at me, her eyes seem not to be able to stare at mine and she looks down, suddenly serious.
"You okay?" I ask, getting a strand of her hair in my fingers and playing with it.
"Yeah, it's just..." She takes a deep breath "I gotta talk to you"
I move uncomfortably in my place, nervous "Okay..."
"I was over at Ashton's today, we had some unfinished issues cause, well... Before I met you the other night, him and I were kinda starting to get together, like in a more than friends way" She pulls a face and I notice her cheeks are red "And the fact is, I wasn't expecting this thing with Ash, I really wasn't, and then you come along, and well, it's you. I mean, I just got extremely confused, you know? Cause I've been through so much with both of you and, this is probably the most selfish thing you'll ever hear, but I don't wanna let go of either of you"
"Wait, you're not dating him, are you?"
"No, no, we just had a few moments, that's it" She runs her hands through her face, letting out a groan "I suck, I know. I don't want to stop seeing you, seriously, I love spending time with you, but I'll completely understand if you just get out of here right now and tell me to go to hell"
I can't help but laugh at the way she talks "I'm not gonna do that, don't worry. It must have been pretty bad for him to see me here the other day, huh? Can I ask what's the situation between the two of you now?" I probably feel more shitty than I sound.
She hesitates a bit before answering me "He said he won't ask me to stop seeing you, he just... Asked me for a chance. And I'm gonna give it to him"
I nod slowly and I most sure of what I say next than of anything I've ever said "It's only fair if you give me a chance as well, right?"
"What?"
I bite my bottom lip nervously and focus my gaze on her eyes "Sum, you're the most amazing girl I've met, I mean it. And we get along so good, I can't give up on you, I don't wanna give up on you. If you're giving him a chance, let me fight for you too"
She stares at me for a long moment, trying to assimilate the idea. Her mouth is partially opened but I don't think she knows what to say, though a small smile forms in the corner of her lips. I take her chin and approach her, kissing her softly once.
"I wanna be with you as much as he wants, but I'll find a way to make you happier than he will. You just gotta let me try"
