ASHTON
I get out of my mom's room as silently as I can, being careful not to wake her up. We didn't talk about her cheating on my dad, she was tired and I knew she didn't want to talk about it with me, at least not at the moment. To be honest I didn't fell like talking either. Though I wasn't expecting that from her and I could see her shame, I'm not in any position to judge. She's my mom and she had to put up with my dad for years, the fact is that, even cheating, she continues being the best mom and the best wife both of us could ever ask for.
"How did it go?" Hannah asks me when I meet her in the waiting room, getting up as soon as she sees me, worried.
I shrug lightly, a little uncomfortable "It was fine... But I prefer not to talk much about it right now"
She nods "Yeah, sure. Wanna get some ice cream in the caffeteria maybe?" She asks with a sweet smile, obviously doing her best to make me feel better.
I laugh softly "Seriously? My mom goes to the hospital and I go get ice cream? How lame is that?" I joke, making her roll her eyes with a small smile.
"Lame enough to cheer you up, let's go"
-
"So you have to move out?" I ask, frowning at Hannah as we sit in the caffeteria on the first floor, maybe because of the time the place is quite empty.
She nods slowly, taking a sip of her soda "Yeah, my stupid dad called and well, they're not sending more money to help me pay the apartment and it's not like I have anything saved like you guys, so" She shrugs and I can tell she's upset.
"Why is he being a jerk? Did you guys had a fight or something? I mean, you're his daughter..."
She lets out a humorless laugh "I guess both he and my mom got tired of me. But whatever, it's fine. I needed some motivation to really look for a job anyways"
"Do you have another apartment already?"
"Not yet, I'll start looking tomorrow" She sighs, frustrated.
We remain in silence for a moment, both probably thinking about our own problems, and it takes me a while to speak again, a little unsure if I wanted to know the answer to my question.
"Did you talk to Summer? She said she was passing by your house today..." I say in a low tone, trying not to make it sound like I'm starting an argument.
She looks up at me and raises her eyebrows casually "Yeah, we're okay"
"Oh" I'm quite surprised that this is all she has to say about it, but I guess that's better than I expected so I might as well just let it go for tonight "Well, that's good" I say, giving her a small smile "Hmmm, getting back to the moving out subject..."
She narrows her eyes "What about it? I already said I'm gonna look for a job, for real this time, don't wor..."
"Why don't you come stay with me? I mean, until you have all settled to find your own place and stuff, I have enough room"
I observe as she process the information, it's clear she wasn't expecting that and she doesn't seem to know how to react.
"Wow, Ash that's... That's really sweet, I mean, thank you but... I don't think it'd be a good idea" She says, bitting her lip slightly.
I furrow my brows, confused "Why not?"
"Well... You have this thing with Summer going on and, yes, we are okay, but I don't think she'd like me sleeping in the same appartment as you guys" She lets out a humorless laugh and I roll my eyes.
