ASHTON

I keep staring at the door for what feels like ages.

I don’t know if he told her, I don’t know what’d be her reaction, I don’t know if she’s fine and I don’t even know why I’m here. I let out a big sigh, reaching for the doorbell, that for some reason seems to be judging me as everything else around me.

I don’t have to wait thirty seconds till the door is open and I can face my mother’s surprised and wide grin. I smile at her, though I don’t feel like it.

“Hey, mum”

“Ash! What a great surprise, I wasn’t expecting you here” She says, hugging me tight before letting me in “You’re alone or Summer came with you?” She peeks through the window to make sure there’s no one else.

“No, she didn’t”

I must have said that with the most pathetically disappointed face on earth, cause my mother frowns looking at me, suddenly concerned.

“You two okay?”

I nod quickly “Yeah, yeah. I mean, we’ll be fine”

“Alright, good” We stay in silence for a moment and she hands me a cup of coffee “You know, your father had a black eye when I came back that day…”

I look down, feeling my face heat up. But she just keeps talking normally.

“He said he had drunken too much and hit the door” She laughs lowly “I think he was able to create a better excuse, but he was lazy to do it. What do you think?”

I look at her and it’s obvious she understood what happened the last time I came here. I run my fingers through my hair and roll my eyes with a deep breath.

“Things didn’t go so good mum, sorry”

“Sorry for what? It wasn’t your fault”

“How can you know?” I ask and she gives me a sweet smile.

“Cause you’re my son and I know you”

I bite my bottom lip nervously when the memory of that day comes back to my mind.

“I shouldn’t have, I just… I didn’t wanna hurt him, but everything was so…”

I hide my face in my hands, supporting my elbows in the kitchen balcony. I haven’t done anything all day but I feel amazingly tired.

She rubs my back slightly “Don’t be so hard on yourself, your father is not an easy person to deal with”

“You should just leave him mum” I say with a raspy voice looking up at her.

“Things are not like that Ash”

“Why not? The way he talks about you is…”

“I know, I know. But I don’t want you to worry about me, okay?”

“He told me you lost your job for disability” She looks away, serious. She’s been doing that quite often lately “He said you’re taking pills mum”

She shakes her head “It was just a headache, I’m fine”

“They got you fired because of a headache?”

“I’m looking for another job already, you don’t have to worry”

“How can I not be worried? You lost your job, you’re living with a guy that doesn’t respect you, apparently you’ve been taking pills and you look thinner every time I see you mum! Am I supposed to just ignore that?”

She stares at me for a while, her fingers playing nervous with each other “You’re supposed to know that I can take care of myself. You’re the son here, I worry about you and not the other way around”

“I can help…” I start saying but she interrupts me.

“You can focus on your study, when does college starts?”

I sigh, of course she’d change the subject “Next week” I widen my eyes, suddenly realizing that I don’t have much time till I have to get back on my studies “Shit, I haven’t bought anything yet”

“Well, you better start then”

I nod slowly, lost in my own thoughts. Why is there so much going on at the same time?

SUMMER

I stare at my phone for the tenth time in the last ten minutes, but there's no message or call from Ashton. I sigh, rolling through my chat with Luke earlier. I had stoppoed answering a while ago, maybe because Ash's face wouldn't stop crossing my mind, his expression when he saw Luke coming out of my bedroom was...

I feel like shit.

The guilt is taking over me since he left my place and I had to go back to face Luke, that was waiting for me. Thankfully he was gone a few minutes later and I could start telling myself what a fool I've been. But it's kinda hard to make my situation better with Ashton when he ignores me everytime I try calling him. To be honest I'm starting to get mad about it.

I mean, we're best friends. He can't just ignore me even if he thinks I slept with Luke, it's not like we're dating or something. He's being such a kid acting like this. I get up, suddenly deciding to do something about it and not just sit on my ass all day. I'm going over to Ashton's.

This is just an amazingly short filler chapter guys, sorry. I just kinda ran out of ideas for a while, but I'll uptade again this week ;)
