Storyteller Chapter 10

Val’s POV

“I love the sun, the sky and all the many butterflies”, Henri said running around with her newly bought kite.

“She’s not all there is she?” Nadia said looking around, “excuse me football boys spotted I’ll be right back”.

“Don’t hurry on my account”, I said climbing up into my favorite tree with our bags. We just went on a big shopping trip and now we were hanging out in the park. We loved being outdoors on the weekend even if we weren’t good at any sports we still had fun. I could see Teddy was over on the swings with his friend, Joey and mom and dad were talking to Joey’s mom. This was a small town so I wasn’t surprised to see them here. Mr. Hallaway was hanging out with a friend of his playing Frisbee. He had a son I can’t remember his name but he was a trouble maker and he lived with his mom.

I couldn’t understand why a woman would leave Mr. Hallaway he was a really nice guy but she did and she took his son with her. His son was now in military school and Mr. Hallaway was all alone with his St. Bernard, Angus. There were tons of familiar people in the park and I looked around at them as I sucked Sprite up the straw and into my mouth. Nadia was joking around with the guys and laughing herself silly while Henri was climbing up into a tree to save her kite. I was watching when my phone rang and I checked the caller ID and it was the number from last night. “Hello this is Valerie”, I said pretending I didn’t know who it was.

“Hello this is Alex I’m not here obviously so call back at any other time and don’t worry about me I’m having a blast”, he said and I rolled my eyes, “sound familiar”.

“Okay you caught me my friends wanted to hear what you sounded like”, I said defeated.

“So what was the overall opinion was I too sexy for my own good or just plain sexy and I know it”, he teased.

“You and Nadia are perfect for each other”, I said shaking my head.

“Is that so?” he said amused.

“You both said the same thing plus she’s into men who are full of themselves”, I said eyebrows raised.

“I’m not that full of myself”, he said defensively.

“Last Thursday you were commenting on how many chicks thought you were the hottest guy at your school”, I reminded him.

“Well most of the guys around my school would say the same thing it’s a tradition of the men in our school to be full of themselves but I’m less so because I went to public school for the first few years of my life”, he said proudly.

“I’ve always gone to public school and it’s a tradition to be full of yourself at our school too you guys aren’t so special”, I said looking over at Henri who was flying her kite again and I laughed to myself.

“What is so funny?” he asked curiously.

“Henri is flying her kite and she’s got a Grinch grin on her face”, I said shaking my head.

“What is Nadia up to?” he asked coolly.

“She’s flirting with football guys”, I said watching her running around with their football.

“So do you have a web cam?” he asked suddenly.

“Of course I have a web cam my parents aren’t evil overlords or anything like that?” I said rolling my eyes.

“Do you have Skype?” he continued.

“Yes I do I go on it all the time”, I said wondering what his point was.
