Val’s POV
“Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars”, my iPod played while I headed into English class.
“Headphones off storyteller”, Mr. Hallaway said as I entered the room.
“Yes Mr. Hallaway”, I said sitting down in my desk.
“Hey last class of the day”, Nadia whispered across the aisle.
“We all know it’s the last class Miss. Abbott but we still have to refraining from whispering”, Mr. Hallaway said going up to the white board and started writing.
“Tomorrow is the day”, Henri said sitting in the adjoining desk to mine.
“What is happening tomorrow ladies?” Mr. Hallaway asked genuinely curious.
“I’m doing classics night it’s Green Gables week”, I said with a smile.
“You do love those books don’t you”, he laughed.
“Well I can understand fiery redheads”, I said nudging Nadia. Nadia has long straight red hair down almost to her hips and bright blue eyes and Henri had super short blue hair in a bob and chrome colored eyes.
“There’s a lot of those hanging around”, he agreed, “now today’s class we’re doing a spelling test”. The rest of the class groaned but I just smiled to myself. “All advanced college words but everyone here should find this easy since spelling is the easiest thing in the world right”, he said sounding almost sarcastic, “great so everyone separate your desks and we will start on these tests”.
“Easy as pie”, Derek said.
“Have you ever read a college dictionary?” I asked him.
“No need to I’m naturally smart”, he smirked.
“Okay then”, I said rolling my eyes then looked forward and started on my test. They were complex words but I’d studied a college dictionary a few months ago when I got really bored so the words came easily to me. I was the second one done and Henri was the first. She got out of class twenty minutes early meanwhile Nadia and I worked on our book studies. I was doing a study on Gone With the Wind, a book I hadn’t read before and Nadia was doing one on Hunger Games. Henri would be doing hers on Walk to Remember if she hadn’t skipped out early. She loved that book and she cried every time she watched the movie.
Henri’s favorite book was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and mine was of course Anne of Green Gables. I loved the relationship between Gilbert and Anne it was so funny and yet heartwarming at the same time. When the bell rang people got up and cheered and I took this week’s report up to Mr. Hallaway. “Here’s my report”, I said handing it to him.
“You know you don’t have to hand them in until the end of the assignment”, he reminded me.
“I lose things quite often so it’d be safer if you held onto it for now”, I explained.
“Well then I guess I could hang onto it for you”, he said amused, “have a good rest of the day”.
“Thanks you too”, I said then following Nadia out of class and we all went to our lockers and got our backpacks and purses then headed out shopping.
“Alright so I know Alex’s date is first but that’s more complicated so let’s start with Derek’s date outfit”, Nadia said as we arrived at the expensive clothes store.
“Something slutty and yet expensive”, Henri said and I tried not to laugh.
“We picked the right store”, I whispered.
