"It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation."-Herman Melville

Good day, my friend!:) This is going to be my first story, so if ever there are typo's and any other corrections, I'll be glad to hear your voice. There you have it guys! Enjoy!!

Sitting on a wooden chair in the balcony, Leslie Andrea Martinez thought of how marvelous it is to live. By now, the stars shimmered as if it were pieces of gold and silver glued on the evening sky. The light of the full moon made the night even brighter. Fireflies were like golden sequins dancing on the trees adding glow on the starry night. Staring at the horizon, she was delighted at the same time sad.

Even though she and her best friend, Adrian Wright had been separated for years, it was a custom she hadn't been able to break. Every night, she always finds herself caught upon the same old situation. Leslie always wished that someday the wound in her heart will endure and it wouldn't hurt anymore.

"Leslie, it was an illustrious past right?" Zane said interrupting her thoughts. She's her friend in college and they share one apartment.

"An illustrious past? What are you talking about?!" She said at once.

Zane gave her a grin and drank the orange juice she was holding. " Admit it Leslie, you're thinking of him and the moments you spent together. I know you and by the thought of seeing you, sitting in the balcony, looking at the moon, it's pretty obvious. We're together for 3 years remember?"

"Am I really that easy to read?" Leslie just stared at her feeling guilty. She wanted to tell Zane that she's right but for some unexplainable reasons, she can't. She's stuck by what Zane said, by those thoughts and most of all , stuck with HIM.

" You know what Leslie, if you don't want to talk about it, I wouldn't force you to."

Pain instantly captured Leslie's heart which brought rivers of tears upon her roundish-almond eyes. Yet, still she managed to hold them back.

"Why couldn't I forget about those foolish little things? Why is emptiness embracing me like this? Is being in solitude this hard?" Leslie pondered in silence.

Zane felt unhappy for her condition. "I understand your situation Leslie...But somehow you need to move on."

Leslie defended herself. " I have moved on."

"Really? All this time, I know you are only pretending. It isn't that hard to distinguish, Leslie. You can put a big mask on your face but you can never hide reality from a friend who cares."

Leslie found herself looking away. She knew Zane is just concerned. All her words seem to hit her right in the face.

Zane continued. "As a friend, I don't want you to stay like that forever! " She stated frankly. "So, if you don't mind, I'll just go out and buy something for a while." Zane knew Leslie needed some time for herself.

She waited for an answer so Leslie said " No, I don't. Just be back before dinner, okay?"

Zane nodded. "Take care! Think about what I said. Love yah!" Then she left, leaving her once again in the balcony, on a cold serene night.

Leslie sighed. Tears were gradually flowing. She never thought it would be this hard. She attempted a lot of times to look and feel okay, but she had failed herself. And no matter what she do or distractions she engages into , even for five years apart, she still miss everything they've had. A lot of times, she felt guilty yet she has no other choice.

She needs to be strong without him.
