Third POV

She watched him as he basked in the attention, collecting glances like trophies upon his wall, smiling proudly when someone would acknowledge him or shake his hand. But it wasn't his night, and it wasn't about him. She didn't know if he did it purposely to get her to care, but he never had to try. Her eyes would always follow him even if she didn't want them to.

But yet she shared the attention with him; he took half of hers without batting his eyelashes or a slight movement of his lightly curled brown hair. He didn't need to, it gravitated towards him, and it infuriated her how his hazel eyes would twinkle when she showed him an inkling of her attention. Whether he did it on purpose or if it was purely accidental, he enjoyed it.

She gave in, fully turning her head to look in his direction. She contemplated whether or not she should stupidly abandon all her attempts to stay away from him. She did not have time to make up her mind. He decided for her. It's almost as if he had been swallowed by the walls, and she was unsure of whether or not he was there, to begin with. Before she could figure out where he disappeared, a cold hand brushed against her wrist.

"Oh... there she is. Hey, Babe. I've been looking everywhere for you. Karis. You look absolutely stunning."

Troi kissed Karis on the corner of her mouth, "I'm so proud of you, and I'm so sorry that I'm late." He placed one hand on her waist and smiled softly as he pulled away."It's okay," she whispered, avoiding his green eyes."Are you alright?" he held onto either side of her face inspecting her as a child would a broken toy.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she subtly turned her head to the corner the man disappeared into."Are you sure? You don't look fine. I tried to get here as quick as I could. You know I would not miss this for anything. I feel like the worst boyfriend in the world." He added the guilt on his face, slowly morphing into curiosity as he peered, looking for whoever she was.

"I am fine, don't worry about it. How was your trip?" She ended her annoyance very clear in her tone. "Come on, tell me all about it," she smiled quickly, changing her expression, fixing his suit jacket, noticing the bags under his eyes from his long flight.

"Amazing, honestly, down there is breathtaking. We got some really good shots. Thank you for allowing me to use your hotel," Troi looked at her confusedly, surprised at her odd behaviour. Considering this was her party, he expected her to be in a good mood.

"It's the least I could do, and it's free advertising," she chuckled. "Melbourne has the best views." As he held onto her hips. Though confused, he thought it best to drop the conversation and hoped they would discuss it later. "I'm going to find your Dad." He kissed her forehead, "Leaving me so soon," she falsely frowned, her hands looping around his neck.

"I promise I'll be back soon." Her fake frown turned to a real one as she looked towards her feet. "Okay, I'll see you soon."

Grabbing a glass of champagne from a server, she inhaled the bubbly nectar feeling the liquid shoot down her throat. She placed the crystal champagne glass neatly on a nearby table. Karis barely noticed the blonde older woman peering across the table.
