The fireball

chapter 4

Terrified , the only word that can describe how I'm feeling . When my grandma managed to wake me up after I had blacked out , a car was waiting for me outside the house to take me away to the institute , there was only one thought on my mind .... when they ask about my power , what am I supposed to say water or fire?

" Good bye dear , I'll visit you " grandma said as the car speeds away , I look at the house one last time

" Hold tight " the driver says , I am about to ask why , but then suddenly the car is no longer on the ground , instead it soars high above the clouds

my eyes widen " Wow "

the driver laughs " I know right that's what I said when I was your age "

I sigh " Am I going to be the only new member there? "

He shakes his head " Of course not, today is the day when all the boys and girls who turned 18 recently go to learn how to use their powers "

And then it his me today is my birthday , I'm turning 18 today , I look next to me and find a wrapped box , I open it and find my favourite homemade cupcakes , I smile , I sure am going to miss my grandma

" Thanks for the information , take this " I give the driver a cupcake

"Thanks dear you can call me Robin by the way" he gives me a friendly smile

I smile at him , and look at the clouds outside the window

" Elda , wake up , we're here "

I rub my eyes and stretch lazily " c'mon Elda , you've been sleeping for a long time " Robin chuckles

" Okay I'm up " I look at Robin and give him a small smile
Robin lifts my bags for me and before I could protest a boy who couldn't be older than 18 walks over to him , he is handsome the kind that you'd want to just watch his every move .

" Hey Robin , let me help you with these " he says as he takes the rest of my bags while I just stand there useless

"Hey" the boy waves at me , I wave back at him feeling awkward

" My name's Adam and I'm going to lead you to your room " he says smoothly

" I'm Elda ... and thank you I guess " I say , feeling the heat rising to my cheeks

He laughs " Why are you so nervous ?"

I scratch my neck " I'm just not really used to talking to people who are my age "

He nods " Okay let's take you to your room " we start walking side by side

" I'm not really comfortable with the idea of you carrying my bgs for me , I have hands you know " I smile

" well I'd like to see you try " he says challenging me

I stop walking and raise my eyebrow at him , being the stubborn person that I am I reach for my bags , I struggle a bit but I am able to lift them in the end

" I win " I smirk at him

he shakes his head amused " I'm still not letting you carry them though "

after a long argument Adam carries my bags and finally we reache the room , he unlocks the door with a key and walkes inside with me behind him

" Now the most important question comes " he rubs his hands together

I cross my arms " shoot "

" What are your powers ? " he tilts his head

Water or fire , what should I say , without thinking , the words come out of my mouth " Water " as soon as the word leaves my mouth I want to take it back

He nods " I'm going to be your trainer then , you can rest if you'd like , when it's lunch time I'll come and get you " and with that he leaves me alone , cursing myself for lying , but I didn't know if I was angry for lying or was I angry for lying to him .

I lay on my bed when I finish unpacking my things and just as I am about to close my eyes , there is a knock on the door , I lazily walk to the door , I open it and I see Adam's green eyes " We are heading to the cafeteria , I figured that you'd like to know the squad "

" We already know eachother Adam " I say harshly , he looks taken aback by my words

" Sorry Adam , I'm just a bit tired .... I guess " I sigh heavily

" It's okay , we can talk later " he smiles

I nod " I need some fresh air " I head towards the gates to get out

"Wait not this way , that way , c'mon I'll lead you" he starts leading the way , he opens a door that leads to the garden but surprisingly he doesn't stop , he continues walking till I heare the sound of waves , the scene infront of me is breathtaking , the ocean with its golden sand just amazing

" you said you wanted fresh air , also you're supposed to like the water " he looks at his watch " I'll be right back " he walks away , I notice a fire near a stone , maybe someone was trying to get warm , I walk towards the fire and touch it

" Elda ..... you're touching the fire! "  adam's eyes are wide as he waites for an explanation

" yeah .. water powers , the fire doesn't affect me " I shrug nervously , when did I become a pro in lying

"yes we're not affected , but the fire gets extinguished when someone with water powers touches it " he looks at me suspiciously

I keep opening and closing my mouth like a fish , thankfully I am saved by someone calling Adam

" Adam come here , you're late for training " a girl shouts

He clenches his jaw and pulls my wrist in his hand " We'll talk later , and don't think about avoiding me , now get ready for showing your powers to everyone in there " my stomach lurches , my palms start sweating and I dropp to my knees as I watch Adam walk away " Oh god what did I get myself into "
