The fireball

chapter 8

I stand alone in the hallway staring at the spot where Adam was standing a while ago , I am deep in thought till I hear someone clearing his throat behind me , I look behind me and Edmund is standing there smiling sadly

" Don't worry about him , he'll be okay "

I nod my head slowly

" Follow me " he says and starts walking not giving me a chance to ask any questions I follow him through the hallways till we reach a room that I haven't noticed before I glance at the sign on the door " Don't enter " I read , but Edmund goes in anyway

" So , considering Adam decided to abandon us today , then I'll be training you instead " he sighs

" Okay " I say simply

" Adam said that you already have control over your powers so I'll be teaching you how to fight now " I nod signalling for him to continue " The thing is to be able to fight you've got to cause damage to your enemy , so I want you to think of something that triggers you .. something that would make you angry "

" I get it " I say

I spent most of the day training with Edmund , I wasn't angry at all and that's why we spent a lot of time in that room , Edmund was stubborn he wanted to see what I'm capable of and what I would do if I got angry so he kept me in that room for so long and that was enough to get me angry

when he was finally satisfied he allowed me to leave and that was reluctantly , but as much as he irritated me I liked how hardworking he was

He surprised me though by getting me a meal to eat and I was so thankful for that

After I am done eating I head to Adam's room , the hallways are silent , I think everyone is out having fun or in their rooms already . I glance at my watch , it is 9:30 pm

My thoughts divert to Adam why did he get angry all of a sudden , was he jealous because of Albert ? My thoughts are interrupted by some hushed voices , I recoginize Adam's voice , I walk closer to the direction of the voices and keep myself hidden

Adam is in a heated conversation with Albert who looks irritated

" Is that girl ...Elda , hiding something ..... a secret maybe? " he says cunningly

Adam shrugd" Well I know nothing plus it's none of your buisness "

Albert clenches his fist " Not convincing at all , you know something I'm sure that you do "

Adam smirks " Even if I know something what makes you think I'm going to tell you?"

I could sense the tension in the air , and suddenly Albert punches Adam , I couldn't control myself , I immediately stand between them and with all my strength I slap Albert , grab Adam's hand and leave

Once we reache Adam's room he glares at me

" Are you insane , what did you just do ?"

I shake my head " Nothing , I wasn't thinking straight "

he chuckles sarcastically " Well look Elda , what you did will never happen again "

I scoff " Well I couldn't just stand there and watch him beat the shit out of you "

He rolls his eyes " I don't need a girl to defend me "

I freeze in my spot , that's what I get for trying to help? I shouldn't have trusted him , I walk towards the door but before I could touch the door knob , Adam is infront of me blocking my way

" Go away Adam , I don't want to talk to you" I am surprised at how calm my voice is even though I am boiling with rage on the inside

He shakes his head " I can't let you leave , I won't let you leave "

Tears of anger blur my vision , but I won't cry infront of him

" Get out of my way Adam , Why do you even care about my safety ? " I yell and push him away storming out of the room , I let the tears fall freely as I walk without a destination , I couldn't understand why he acted this way , it's like he was replaced .

someone taps my shoulder , I wipe my face and huff when I see that it is Albert , I roll my eyes " What do you want ? "

He smirks " Your secret"

I chuckle " What makes you think that I'm keeping a secret ? "
He smiles " I have my doubts ..Elda . You see some people think that you might be the fireball and I have my ways to make sure what you are " he motiones to the plastic bag in his hand " Take a look at this "

I huff and look inside the bag , there is ice , at first I am confused , but then it clicks , he thinks that I'm the fireball which means that ice hurts me it can make me weak , he wants to see my reaction , I laugh to hide my nervousness

" Don't you want to touch one , I mean it's hot in here some ice cubes would help " he says lowly

I feel danger , I want to call for help but no one is here the building is empty , my only chance is running and I wouldn't be able to outrun him he is longer than me , he has longer legs , but I have to try , I stare behind him for so long so that he would look behind him
and finally , out of curiosity he looks behind him and that is my cue to run as fast as I can I could hear Albert's loud footsteps behind me I glance at him to see that he tripped and fell , I take this as a chance to round the corner and hide anywhere , I run fast not paying attention to my surroundings till I bump into a hard chest , my vision is blurry as the person holds me wrists to steady me

" Elda , calm down it's just me " it is Adam , he pulls me in an embrace trying to calm me down
" Are you okay ? Why were you running ? " I try to catch my breath but my eyes widen when I see Albert behind Adam
immediately I am pulled behind Adam's back " Do you need something Albert ? "

Albert looks at me and leaves , but it is not just a look , it means that this isn't over yet

" Damn , I knew that this would happen " Adam mumbles as he pulls me in the safety of his room
" What's going on , half an hour ago you were complaining about me helping you and now your saving me , well I don't want you to help me either "

He sighs heavily and sits in a chair facing me " I didn't mean a single word from that , I'm sorry I'm a jerk , but that's not the case here "

"Explain please" I say my voice hoarse

" Albert suspected that you're the fireball when you started training privately and when you slapped him he got even angrier and now he's after you "

" I was going to get involved in this wether I slapped him or not"

" Maybe you're right , but I still could've talked to him , I could've convinced him that you weren't the fireball "

" But I couldn't find it in me to just watch you get beaten Adam "
He frowns " Elda , Were you crying ?"

I scoff " What? no . no I never cry"

Adam laughs " You're lying "

I laugh" Well yeah , I was angry "

" I'm so sorry .. I'll make it up to you " he smiles

" I'll forgive you if you let me sleep as long as I want " I smirk

He laughs " okay then , tomorrow is a free day anyway , and I also have a surprise for you "

" okay , I guess I'll sleep now " I yawn 

He smiles " Goodnight "

" Goodnight " I mumble and get under the covers without even changing my clothes , I didn't know how tired I was till I closed my eyes and drifted into a dreamless sleep
