Chapter 33 - A Step in the Right Direction
I walked into the house and heard voices coming from the living room. I dropped my keys onto the key rack and I headed over to where they were. When I walked in, I saw Jacob and Aiden playing some video game and Brian was cheering them on along with Natalie.
I chuckled from my spot in the doorway and Natalie whipped her head in my direction. "Hannah! Where were you?" She asked, running over to me and engulfing me in a bear hug. "Oh I went to Starbucks and I went to go look for a job." I said after she let me go.
"You got a job?" She asked, her mouth dropping open. I nodded and smiled. "Yeah, at the restaurant that Lucy works at."
Lucy was this girl at school who would always slink in the shadows. She was never someone to show herself and be in the center of attention. I don't think I've ever seen her with any friends or talking to anyone to be honest. Or I don't think that I've ever heard her say anything in my life.
"Quiet Lucy?" Natalie asked. I nodded and her eyes widened. "Wow. She actually has a job. I didn't think that she would even go anywhere because she doesn't like to be seen, and for that job you have to go and talk to people and be all happy. That is the total opposite of her." I nodded. "I know right?"
I walked further into the room and was about to take a seat on the couch when Aiden spoke up. "Hey Hannah. Can you get me something from the kitchen please? Like a Dr. Pepper and some chips? Please?" I rolled my eyes but turned around to do it anyways. It didn't matter because I was hungry. I haven't ate anything since I ate that brownie at Starbucks.
I walked into the kitchen and opened the fridge. I pulled out a can of Dr. Pepper for Aiden and I pulled out a can of Sprite for myself. I went into the cabinet and got a bag of chips for him and I got myself some brownies. I also got another bag of chips and I closed the cabinet and started heading into the living room again.
"Here you go." I said, shoving the can of Dr. Pepper and bag of chips in Aiden's hands. "Hey, are you fucking kidding me?" He cried out. I scoffed and was about to go all off on him when he pointed at the television screen. "You made me lose!" I shrugged and collapsed onto the couch. "Whoops." I said, not feeling sorry at all.
Brian made his way over to me and he plonked himself next to me. "Hey Hannah, I need to talk to you." He said. I nodded and crossed my arms. "Okay, spill."
He rolled his eyes and scoffed. "Not here. But in your room."
I sighed and got up after taking a sip of my Sprite. "Okay, let's go."
We made our way up the stairs and into my room. I closed the door behind me and I fell onto the beanbag chair that was in one of the corners of my room. I took another sip of my Sprite and I gave him a poitned look. "Alright. You wanted to talk, so talk."
