I fall asleep into an endless dream.

In the dream I’m stuck in a fun house, there are creepy clowns and screams coming from everywhere. I call out but nobody answers. Suddenly there is blood dripping from the roof. It gets in my hair ad on my arm. Then I realize I’m the one screaming, I start to run, but all the hallways are endless. I’m suddenly in a white room and it goes on forever. Still no one is there. “Bridgette. Bridgette. Bridgette.” I can hear someone calling my name and then I wake up.

I’m all sweaty and feel nauseous. I take off my sweater and curl up in a ball on Josh’s bed. I hear someone unlock the front door. Maybe I shouldn’t have texted him. Maybe it was a bad idea coming here..

“Bridgette?”

“I’m upstairs..” I say quietly.

I can hear him come up the stairs. Two at a time. He only does that when he’s worried or scared. He looks down the hall and sees me sitting in the corner of his bed, between the walls.

“Bridge!” He yells and runs to me. I stay with my legs up to my chest and put my head down and cry. “What’s wrong? Did somebody hurt you?”

“Well first it was the pictures and then it was Lindsay. And then Brad tried to pick me up and then I went home and and.. Josh I cut myself.” I push the covers off of me and hold out my wrist. The tensor is soaked with a blood stain. His eyes get wide and he looks from me to my wrist. He gets on the bed beside me and wraps his arms around me. “It’s gonna be ok Bridge. Everything will be fine.”

Because I called my mom and said I was staying at Amber’s house I didn’t have to call again and say I was actually staying at Josh’s. He told me how he got the janitor to get the marker off the locker and looked for me instead of going to classes. Finally he couldn’t take it anymore and sat in his car driving around.

Josh makes me get out of bed and takes me to the hospital. The nurse takes me in a room and starts to ask me questions, but Josh answers them all for me. “Well… It looks like you’ll need a few stitches, sweetheart.” Says the nurse. I don’t take in what she’s saying, I just stare at her red hair.

The doctor lays me down on the bed and gets the stitching. “Wow. This is really deep what happened to you, missy?”

“She cut herself in home ec.” Says Josh saving me. He takes my good hand and squeezes it. I look up to him and he gives me a sympathetic smile.

The doctor freezes my wrist and puts 3 stitches in. They hurt and I start to tear up. After we finish filling out the hospital forms, Josh takes me to go get hot chocolate. We hang out in his car for a while. I look up at the stars and start to count. It’s silence. You can hear a cricket in the distance and cars, but that’s it.

“There’s one star. Two. Three. Four.”

“Bridge?”

“… Five. Six. Seven.”

“Bridge.”

“Mhmm?”

“Are you ok?”

“Yeah I’m great. Well not great, great, but I’m not horrible. I’m just.” Then I break down. Tears stream down my face and Josh just holds me in a hug.

“I’m sorry, Josh. I didn’t mean to ruin everything. Tomorrow we’ll go back to school and you’ll go back to your friends and I’ll go to mine. You can have Lindsay and I’ll be ok. I promise. Things will be like it never happened.”
