“Ok! Pep talk!” Brad gathers us in a huttle. “The plan is, MAKE A TOUCHDOWN!” We all laugh. “BREAK!” He yells. We split apart and form somewhat a line. The teams are Kyle, Brad, Josh, and I, then Raf, Jamal, Kelsey, and Josey.
“I’m takin you downnnn!” I say to Josey nudging her.
“Wanna bet?”
“Naw, you’re gonna kill me!” I smile and she pushes me. I wobble, but gain my balance.
“HUT, HUT!” Yells Brad. I run down to the other side of the football field.
I throw up my hands and yell, “I’m open! I’m open!” I can see Josey running to me from the corner of my eye. Josh launches the ball into the air and I jump to catch it. I land with a thud, the ball safely tucked in my arms. I stand up, “BOOYA!”
“Woooo! Wait to go Bridge!” Yells Kyla. They all run to me and put me on their shoulders.
“Whoa, it could be fun being a tall!” I laugh. It’s been almost one week since the party, everything’s going great.
“Who’s up for Pure?” Asks Josh setting me down, he reaches for my hand and kisses my forehead. We all agree to go to Pure, and walk down the street from the park. Josh pulls me behind the group.
“Bridge, can I talk to you for a second?”
“Sure.” I smile. He looks at me, like he’s trying to smile. “What’s the matter, babe?” I ask. He looks kind of worried, but just shakes his head. “Josh, what is it?” I ask him, I pull his arm so he looks at me.
“No-nothing. Great job out there today. Nice catch.” He winks and hugs me. We start to walk back put I stop.
“Josh. Come on. Tell me.” I say pulling him back.
“Nothing..”
“I know there’s something up, and I won’t move until you tell me.”
“Bridge, there’s no easy way to say this.. I’m moving.”
“What?”
“To Florida.”
“When?” I ask. Thoughts move through my head furiously.
“My dad got a job offer. It pays better. I was going to tell you, but there was never a good time. Bri-“
“When?” I ask again.
“Sunday.”
“WHAT?!” I scream. I drop his hand and sit on the hot black pavement.
“Bridge it’s fine. I’l come visit often. I pro-“
“Josh. It’s Florida!” A tear slips down my face.
“Well, it will be better for school. And once the baby comes,..”
“What? No. You’re not even staying. What’s the point? I’ll just give it up for adoption.”
“No, Bridge. Babe, don’t.”
“Stop it. Just stop. I don’t want to talk to you.”
“Bridge, we have a lot to talk about though.”
“How long?”
“How long, what?”
“How long have you known?”
“Three months…”
“Three months?!” I stand up and run to the group.
“Bridge! Come on, Bridge!”
