(still Josh's point of view)
I wake up to crying babies and a massive migraine.
"Hello?" I ask to see if there is a nurse near by.
"Hi. Is there anything I can get you?" Asks a tall african american doctor with a heavy accent.
"Uh, do you have pain killers?" I ask, knowing he wouldn't give me any even if I was dying.
"I'll go grab some." I hear silently.
I'm either sleeping still, or in shock. I can't believe he said yes. Maybe he just thinks I'm a boozed out highschool kid who is hung over. Which is half right, I guess. Although I'm not hungover, but it feels like I am. Suddenly a thought pops in my head.
Bridge.
I stand from the chair and scramble around the room to try find my phone. After what seems like hours, I give up. They won't even let you have your phone on in the hospital, what help would it be to me now?
I can hear someone knock at the door so I quickly open it.
"Here." The doctor from before slips two advil liquid gel caps into my hand.
I lean forward, like a bow and suddenly pull away.
"I mean, thank you."
The doctor leaves without giving me his name, or any knowledge of what is going on with Bridge, or my children. I quickly throw back my head, swallowing the two blue pills without a drink and quietly close the door. I'm not sure what I look like at the moment, but I can tell it's not a good sight when people start giving me weird looks. I mess my hair with my fingers and splash some water on my face from a water fountain down the hall.
"She looks awful."
"Right? Her skin looks so fair and white. She looks like someone could break her like a twig, so fragile."
I hear voices down the hallway and keep listening.
"I just hope she gets better quick, her family is probably worried sick!"
"And what a poor girl! No one could have seen this coming!"
The voices seem to get quiter so I walk down the dark hallway. There are few lights on in bedrooms, and I quickly look into each one, looking for a framiliar face.
I try to see the two women who were talking, but they seemed to have vanished in thin air.
"Hello?" I ask.
"Hello!" Says a youthful voice. "My name's Jake! What's yours?"
A little boy stands at my feet, wearing a red baseball cap and matching shirt with cargo shorts.
"I'm Josh." I say staring down at the little boy. "Can you tell me where there is a nurse?" I ask, not sure what to do.
"Oh come with me! I'll take you to nurse Bonney!" The little boy takes my hand, leading me to a different hallway.
"Bonney! Bonney!" He starts to jump.
"Yes dear." An old woman stands holding a baby with a breathing mask on.
"Josh needs help!"
"Who?" She asks squinting around the room.
I step into the light and give a quick smile. "Uh hi, I'm looking for my fiance. Her name is Bridgette."
"You should go to the front desk. Just down the hallway. They can help you there, dear."
And with that, she turns around and rocks the baby.
