The night hours were approaching. And Chloe was ready to confront Nathan at the location she told him to meet. Part of her was nervous, but the other part was just ready to get the money and give it to Frank. That's if Nathan even gave her the money. Which Chloe wasn't sure about. But she still needed to try.
It was still too early to go as it was only nine o'clock. It had to be late so no one saw them. But there was one thing that was blocking Chloe. Her mother. Chloe has a strong history with running away late at night which her mother highly resented. But this was something Chloe had to do.
Chloe went to the diner for a quick meal before her meet up with Nathan. Something she desperately needed to calm down. Once she got there, her mother was just leaving. "Chloe, what are you doing here?" Joyce questioned. "I'm just here for a quick meal." Chloe said. "Oh, I can stay for a while longer if you'd like?" Joyce said. "Yeah, cool." Chloe said.
Joyce let Chloe into the diner and walked to the back. There wasn't very much people at the diner as it was closing soon. Chloe sat in her usual booth and waited for her mother.
"So what is it you want, Chloe?" Joyce questioned. "Just a sandwich is fine." Chloe told her. As it was an hour before the diner closed, and there wasn't very many customers, Joyce was able to give Chloe a free meal. Chloe was starting to get anxious. She just wanted to get this whole thing sorted out with Frank. What she was worried about was Nathan blowing her off without the money.
Joyce sat down at the booth with her daughter as she gave Chloe her sandwich. As Chloe ate, she looked at her mother.
"Mom, listen to me." She said. "I love you. Okay? I love you a lot." Chloe told her. Catching the adult off guard. "Oh. Thank you, Chloe. I love you too." Joyce said. "And I'm sorry I wasn't a better daughter over the years. But I'll try." Chloe assured. "That means a lot, Chloe. I do hope we can be a family again." Joyce said. Chloe nodded. "David knows he hasn't made the best choices as a step-father. But he's trying." Joyce said.
Chloe wasn't all ready to forgive David. But she remembered what Max told her about spending time with Joyce. And that's what she was doing. "Before she left, Max told me to spend time with you." Chloe told her. "And that's what I want to do, Mom. I'm trying my best." She said. "Oh Chloe... that means a whole lot." Joyce said. "I'm proud of you." Joyce told her.
Chloe smiled warmly and nodded. "You know... your father... always said you were going to be special." Joyce said. "I'm sure he's proud of you for turning your life over, Chloe. Just as I am." Joyce told her. "I know you hate this kind of conversation. But I mean it wholeheartedly, Chloe. I'm very, very proud of you." She said.
Chloe accepted what she was being told and nodded. "Thanks mom. I hope I can live up to his word." Chloe said. "You already are, Chloe." Joyce said. Chloe finished her sandwich and Joyce took the plate to the back. They left the diner and met out front.
"Are you coming home?" Joyce asked. "No, I'm staying out if that's alright." Chloe said. "Well don't stay out too late, Chloe, okay?" Joyce said. Chloe nodded. "I'll try not to." She said. "Okay. See you tomorrow, Chloe." Joyce said and hugged her daughter. She smiled as she felt Chloe's arms wrap around her.
Chloe was seriously trying her best to be a better daughter. And this was the first step.
Chloe parted from her mother and they went their separate ways. Chloe entered her truck and started the engine. It was still a little early for the meet up so Chloe still had some time to herself.
There's two ways this can play out. One. He gives me the money and we leave it at that. Two. He completely rejects me and I'm fucked. I mean, it's not like Frank is some hardened drug dealer. He acts like it, but he's not as hardcore as he seems. He just gets crazy over money. The worst that can happen is that he just stops dealing with me.
