(Carl's POV)
We get to the small town and Dad leads us to the particularly small pharmacy. Daryl rushes in, lying Ally down on a small table. She opens her eye, sitting up, obviously hurting herself in the process.
"Ally, slow down." Dad puts his hand on her back, trying to help her. But she hisses at his touch; she's hurt all over.
Daryl grabs supplies from the shelves, splitting open a first aid kit. He looks around, and then looks at Ally, not knowing what to do, or where to start.
She grips the front ledge of the table, her knuckles turning white. "Ally...?" I ask, placing my hand on top of hers. But, she flinches and I quickly remove my hand.
"Ally, what hurts? What did they do to you?" Daryl asks, trying to make eye contact with her, but she looks away and shakes her head.
She's not crying, not talking, not doing anything, but sitting and staring at her feet. Daryl and Dad exchange a glance. "What now?" Dad mouths. Daryl shrugs, looking back at Ally. Daryl points behind him and Dad nods.
They both begin waking in that direction, away from Ally and I, probably to talk and discuss what we should do.
"Watch her." Dad whispers to me, patting my shoulder.
I look at Ally and then back at my dad and nod. He walks away with Daryl and I can't seem to keep my eyes off of Ally. She doesn't move and just stares down. I look at her and I can really see how bad they hurt her now. She looks as if she had died, and then crawled out from Hell... twice.
There's dry blood covering her face, and fresh blood running down her head. I walk closer to her and wait for a reaction, but she doesn't move at all. I'm right in front of her know, our faces inches apart. I slowly and carefully put my hand on top of hers again, and this time she lets me.
It takes me everything I've got to not burst out into tears right at this moment. I just want to hug her and hold her in my arms and tell her everything is going to be okay, but I can't promise that. And I don't want to hurt her.
"Ally?" I ask, my voice quiet and slightly shaking. She does looks up, probably because I sound in pain. "You..." Her voice is low and husky. "You okay?"
And that's when tears begin to run down my face, as if on cue. I shake my head, trying to wipe them away. "S-stop worrying about me. I should be asking you if you're okay."
Ally turns her hand over so mine falls in hers. She tries squeezing my hand but she has no more strength left in her, so it's just a loose grip. That makes me cry harder. "I'm so sorry..." I tell her.
She looks fully up at me, raising her eyebrows. "About..." She coughs harshly and I move my other hand to rub her back. "About what?"
I shake my head, tears spilling out of my eyes like rain. "Letting this happen to you."
She shakes her head too, looking away, trying to squeeze my hand again, but fails. "It... it wasn't your fault."
I softly squeeze her hand, taking a deep breath. "No... but I could of-"
"Shut up, Carl." She says sternly. "Just... stop. You... you couldn't have done a-anything." And she starts coughing again.
"I'm sorry." I shake my head, trying to comfort her.
"Stop." She repeats, still avoiding eye contact . "Stop apologizing."
I nod my head, sniffling. "Okay, I'm s-" and I stop myself, trying to calm myself down. She doesn't want you to apologize, dumbass! "Okay..."
