Chapter Four:
"Hayden, it's time to go! I'm sure Dallas has had enough of us." I say to my crying son who just threw himself on the floor crying when I mentioned leaving.
"No Mommy!"
I look towards Dallas pleading with my eyes for help.
Dallas bends down scooping the child off the floor. "Hayden, I only play with big boys and big boys don't scream and cry." I watch as Hayden wipes his tears and stops screaming. "I-I not crying, Dallas." Hayden says wiping his teary eyes on Dallas' shirt. "How about I make a deal with you, tomorrow I'll take you and your mom to the park for ice-cream, but only if you go home now without causing Mommy any problems." Hayden nods his head. I realise then that Hayden never had his afternoon nap. "Okay, Dallas." Hayden agrees before laying his head on Dallas' chest closing his eyes.
"So, what time are we going to the park tomorrow?" I ask as I follow Dallas to his car with the car-seat and diaper bag since he first drove us here.
"I'll come pick you guys up around 11:00 in the morning." Dallas answers as he opens the back door. I secure the car seat into the back seat wrote taking the sleeping Hayden away and buckling him in. Watching my baby sleep for a couple seconds with nothing but love, I shut the door quietly before jumping into the passenger seat. Dallas gets into the driver's seat and we are off. "You still live on seagrass ct., right?" He asks and I nod my head and then realise his eyes are in the road and answer with a simple,"yes."
After a half hour or so we pull up to my one story, small home and I get out. Once Hayden was out of the car, as well, I turn to see Dallas got out too, and ask hesitantly,"Would you like to come in?"
I watch as the emotions cross his face as he glanced at my house, I know it wasn't much, but it was all I could afford at that moment. He glances around the neighbourhood we lived in and again I know it wasn't the best neighbourhood since there was a lot of crimes reported in the area, but did disgust really have to show on his face?
"I am not letting you guys live in this shack in this type of neighbourhood. You will come stay with me. Pack your bag, I'll get Hayden's." Dallas says in that stern voice he always uses during the work day.
"No! You can't waltz up here and demand we leave our home. I know it isn't some mansion that you live in, but I like my 'shack' as you so kindly put it." I spat at him with a glare. "I take back what I said, you can't come in!" I quipped hugging Hayden closer to my body.
"Paisley, think about it, you live in the worst part of Brooklyn. Not only that with a one year old and you're a young, single mother. You're going to get you or Hayden killed. Please come live with me not just for your well being, but for Hayden's. Do you really want something to happen to him when you know you could've stopped it?" Dallas reasoned and slung the diaper bag over his shoulder. He was making a good point, but it wasn't really that bad here as long as you kept to yourself, I tried to reason with myself.
"Fine, we will come live with you, but don't get frustrated when all the offerer situations come with living with a one year old. He isn't potty trained yet. Come on let's go pack." I gave in as I walked through the door to my home and turned to Dallas who was right behind me.
"You said you'd pack for Hayden, his nursery is in the door to your right. Pack all of the clothes that are 8 months and up. Oh! Don't forget his toys, either or the diapers and wipes." I explained before walking into my room and pulling out a duffel bag. I packed all my clothes and other items like toiletries into the bag. I didn't have much clothes and frankly it didn't bother me because I'd rather spend my extra money on Hayden than myself. Finishing the packing or myself, I grabbed another sky and made my way into the kitchen to pack Hayden's bottles and sippy-cups and other items.
"Paisley, calm down, everything we didn't pack we will just buy, no worries. When we get home, you can pick a room to be his nursery or something and I'll have my contractor start designing it for Hayden." Dallas insisted, I grabbed the bags and made my way over to him.
"Did you pack everything I said?" I queried as I looked at the multiple bags on his shoulder and in his other arm an awake Hayden.
"Yes Mommy, I help!" Hayden proudly stated with a two-teeth grin. I smiled lovingly at my baby boy before holding my hand out for a high five which he gave.
"Good job, Buddy." I congratulated and took some of the bags from Dallas and said,"Let me help."
"We can just leave his car seat in my car for now on so you don't have to keep taking it out." Dallas said and I followed him out of my house and to his car. He took the bags from me and passed me Hayden and buckled him in as Dallas put the bags in the back.
Once everything was put in the trunk I jumped into the passenger seat and Dallas jumped into the drivers seat. And we were off.
"Mommy, songs!" Hayden yells from the bak making Dallas jump causing me to let out a chuckle.
"Yeah, okay, baby." I turn to Dallas and ask,"Do you have one of those AUX chords to plug your phone into the radio?"
"I think so, it's in the centre console." Dallas explains and I open it and fish the chord out plugging it in the the radio. I plug my phone into the chord and put on the song 'You Are My Sunshine'.
I listen as I hear Hayden sing along to the song in the back seat loudly. When the song ends I hear Hayden ask for me to play 'Row Row Row Your Boat'. I put it on and again he sings along and I laugh every once in a while when he messes up. This continues the whole half an hour drive back to Dallas' home.
"Dallas sing!" Hayden says when I turn the song 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' on. I chuckle as Dallas looks back at Hayden with a smile before looking back at the road.
"Uh, I don't know buddy, I like it better when just you are singing." Dallas says and I notice he is looking for anyway to get out of singing. I face him with a mischievous smirk and say,"Dallas, I think it would be better if you sing, I bet you're a great singer." I let out a chuckle at the glare I get sent my way.
"Fine I'll sing along. I don't know the song though." How could he not know 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'?
I restart the song and I listen closely as Dallas and Hayden sing to the song or more like Dallas humming along since he didn't know the words. I lay a hand on Dallas' shoulder and say,"I bet by the end of this week you'll know all the lyrics."
Dallas glares at me again and turns back to the road. We pull into the drive-way and I pull my hand away realising it was still on his shoulder a light blush of embarrassment coming to my cheeks.
"We are home!" Dallas states with a smile on his face.
