It had been a few days now since Keith had left the dining room like that, angry at Lance, at Allura and at the whole universe. Nothing had happened since then. There had been no sign of any galra, no sign of Lotor and no sign of anyone who needed help. And Keith had strictly avoided his team mates since then, he didn't see them except for when Allura initiated group practice. They hadn't been able to form Voltron once in these days. Maybe they had been able to form it in the battle against Lotor out of self-defence, like in their very first battle, or maybe Keith's mind was just more distant now. He was constantly absent, he barely reacted when someone talked to him and he mostly stared into nothingness. And when that wasn't enough, he retreated to his room, to be by himself. That happened all the time.
Lance was confused. A few days ago, Keith had just huffed at a compliment from him and walked out of the room and now he was avoiding Lance. This wasn't fair. It wasn't fair for Keith to grasp at Lance's heart and mark it as his own, and then just walk away, leaving Lance to deal with it. He was crumbling. Lance had been sure that he hated Keith. Then he had been sure he admired him. And now he was certain that he loved him. But he wasn't sure if Keith felt the same way. After all, Keith had just walked away. He didn't even want to talk to Lance anymore, even though Keith had been the one to make a move. He had kissed Lance. And in that moment, Lance had been sure it was out of love. But now? Was it all just a game to Keith? Did he like to see Lance confused and down, longing for something unreachable? Had it all been an act? Lance didn't want to doubt Keith, but what other explanation could there be?
Lance got up. He finally had enough, he needed to know the truth. Gladly, it was after dark, so noone would notice Lance going out. He walked through the corridors, over to Keith's room and took a deep breath. This was it. Now, he would find out what was going on, once and for all. Lance lifted his fist and knocked.
Keith heard a knock on his door and got up. Could it be Allura? She had been worried about him as a leader the most. Or Hunk? He had probably realized how little Keith had eaten over the past days. But when Keith opened the door, he saw Lance. And he noticed the familiar smell of apples.
Before Keith could even fully comprehend what was happening, Lance charged into the room, closing the door behind him. "Keith, we need to talk. Now.", he said and held the red paladin at arm's length in front of him. "Uhm... yeah... what is it?", Keith answered hesitantly. Lance took a deep breath and looked deep into Keith's eyes. He just hoped he wouldn't get lost in them.
You're been avoiding me.", Lance started. No response. "Answers me!", he said forcefully. He was expecting something like 'I have?', but Keith now locked eyes with him. "Yes.", he said "I have."
"So why?"
"What do you mean?", Keith asked.
"After everything that happened, you're just gonna avoid me?"
"I don't really understand..."
"I've suffered!", Lance bursted out. "And if that's what you wanted, congratu-fucking-lations, Keith! You did it! But I feel so miserable I can't take it anymore and I just... I just need to know. Have confirmation, you know?"
Keith had no idea what the blue paladin was talking about. He knew he'd been avoiding the brown-haired pilot for a few days, but he figured Lance probably wouldn't even notice. He just needed some time-out after that intense dream a few days ago. He sighed. "Look, Lance, I'm sorry. I don't know what you want me to say. I don't remember any event that would make you question why I might be avoiding you and..." Keith was cut off by Lance, who had scooted forward and placed his lips on Keith's. Keith was surprised. So surprised he pushed Lance away. "I'm sorry... I... I didn't see it coming, I just...", Keith stammered. Lance looked hurt, with teary eyes and an indescribable sadness across his face.
Lance decided to make a final move. Keith looked shocked. If from Lance kissing him or himself pushing Lance away, he couldn't tell. But he couldn't give up now. "You really don't remember?", Lance asked and Keith shook his head. Lance took a slow step towards Keith and cautiously cupped his cheeks. "I need you to tell me.", Lance said. And then he placed his lips against Keith's once again. None of them pulled away this time and when Lance fianlly let go after a while, tears were rolling down both their faces. "Does this help you remember, Keith? Don't your lips remember how perfectly they fit onto mine before?", Lance pleaded. "Come on. Please, I'm begging you. Remember that night in Red.", he whispered. "Hold on!", Keith busted out "That really happened?!" Lance looked just as confused as Keith. And he nodded slowly. "You have some explaining to do, Keith!", Lance said and hugged Keith tight. They fell onto Keith's bed together, Lance on top of Keith. Lance's eyes lit up. "Now tell me what's going on, sweetheart.", he demanded.
Keith took a moment to process that demand, with Lance's warmth on his skin. He looked away to the side. "Lance...", he began. "I've been having... dreams. About you." Lance's eyes widened. "And... I've had them for a while now. So..." Lance turned Keith's head towards his, so he would have to look at him. Keith sighed. "When I woke up in my room that day, I just... I couldn't believe it ever really happened. It had to be one of my dreams!", Keith stammered. He felt so stupid telling Keith all this. He didn't know what Lance would say, but he was scared to find out. Would he think Keith was a freak for having a dream about him? Would he see him as a creepy pervert? "Look I'm really sorry, I...", Keith started, but suddenly stopped talking and looked at Lance. Lance had started to laugh softly, it started out as a chuckle, but soon after, hr laughed loudly, with a huge smile across his face. "What...", Keith started, but had to smile at Lance's adorable happy face. "Oh man, Keith!", Lance coughed up in between laughs "I can't believe you avoided me because you like me too much!" His laugh slowly faded and he looked at Keith. "I thought you hated me." "I thought you hated me too.", Keith confessed. "No, you don't get it.", Lance disagreed and shook his head. "I thought I was a joke to you. That you didn't mean it." Lance looked away. "Lance...", Keith said softly and cupped Lance's face. I could never do that. I love you." Silence. And then Lance smiled "I love you too, stupid." He leaned forward and pecked Keith's nose. "You have no idea how much I do."
Author's note:
Sorry if this chapter was waay too cheesy. I don't really like it, but I guess it's kinda cute. I also noticed Lance and Keith becoming more different wit every chapter.
