I sigh and lay down in my bed. My head is killing me. Literally. This had been a full day. Full and hurtful. Running almost a mile, meeting the boys, getting slapped, running home again, getting hit by a car, meeting the strange boys again. My feet hurt more then my head.
Suddenly my mom comes in, the landline in her hand.
“Um, Patricia,” she seems a little nervous. “Well, I have to go to Cheshire for your, um, fathers hearing and-”.
“I-I don’t have to come with you do I?,” I ask, keeping my voice steady but freaking out inside.
“No, dear.” my mom says, cupping my face. “I told you I’ll never let you miles within that place and I stand by it.” I take in a breath. “You’ll be staying with Aunt Lou, Valerie and Baby Lux.” I smile at the sound of Baby Lux. I have a really strong bond with Lux.
“And I asked her. You can totally bring Autumn too.” I smile at mum. Autumn is my dearest and bestest friend in the world. One of the only people I have ever opened up too.
She knows about my bully-problems, about my scary past and she still doesn’t judge me. I have known her since I moved here at the age of thirteen. Now, I’m seventeen.
“I have to leave tomorrow and Lou is coming to pick you up.” My mother continued. “So pack your bags and contact Autumn. You might be there for maybe 3 to 4 weeks.”
“What if Autumn’s parents say no.” my mother laughs.
“Don’t worry, You’ll be going to work with Lou.” she says, “And besides, when have Autumn’s parents not let her be with you.” I nod.
It was true. Autumn’s parents seemed to like me quite a lot. They said that they wished one of their five daughters could be more like me. I smiled and quickly sent her a text message.
‘Hey Autumn, my mom is going away for a while and I’m staying with my Aunt Lou and she said I could bring a friend. Want to come?’. I hit send and took my sports bag and duffel bag.
I packed it up with enough clothes to last me a month. I was about to get my bathroom things when my phone beeped. I took it and saw it was Autumn’s reply.
‘DUH! Lou is awesome! She’s so hip and modern and she actually gets my unique clothing. I am not going to miss a chance to meet her and it gets me out of meeting my uptight Great-Aunt Greta. So yea I’m definitely coming with!’. I laughed at the text. So like Autumn to miss time with her family members.
‘Pack enough clothes for about a month and come to my house. My mom said she’s picking us up tomorrow. I don’t know what time though.’
I wrote back, packing eyeliner and mascara with hair stuff (bobbins, hairbrush and clips), and toothpaste and brush. Next I took my shampoo and bath milk with cleanser. By the time I was done, Autumn was here.
“Hey!”. she screamed, coming into my now messy room. “So I have my stuff. Sleeping bag and stuff. Where do I sleep.” Autumn wasn’t much of a late night person. She preferred early nights yet late mornings. I threw my bags to the side and made space in my room.

I woke up bright and early. I knew my mother had to say things to me, before she left. She wouldn’t say them in front of Autumn, as not to make her feel uncomfortable. I yawned and went into the shower.
I took a quick one and changed into clothes. I put on my undergarments, first. I changed into my black t-shirt with a shadowy face. Then into my black skinny jeans and black checkered socks. I went downstairs and saw my mother making pancakes.
