another six and a half years later

"hey, hey, hey, come back here!" she shouted at the young child scrambling about the floor.

the child was extremely hyper, and difficult to control and keep calm. but, she was doing her best.

"catch me if you can, mom!" the child yelled, before moving even faster away. he giggled uncontrollably, and ended up plopping onto the couch and having a giggle fit.

as soon as he saw his mother, he stopped giggling.

"mommy, i don't wanna wear those pants! they are itchy and scratchy and they hurt my legs!" the boy said, pouting.

millie held up the pants and asked, "well, how can we fix that?"

"uhhhhh, i dunno momma. just let me wear other pants?" he smiled.

"no, we clip the tags off of the waistband." millie said, and did so.

"what if they still hurt?" he asked.

"then, when we get home, you can take a warm bath and we'll get you into some comfy pants. how's that sound, liam?" millie offered, trying to get her son to put the pants on.

they were going to run late to a dinner with their family. it was a struggle to get liam to do what's asked.

"okay mommy. if you say it'll be alright." liam said, sliding off the couch.

"you know i'd never lie to you, or let you be in pain, baby. i love you." millie said, helping liam into the pants.

"i love you too, mommy."

"liam, where's your father?" millie asked.

he only shrugged, not knowing the answer.

"can you please go find him while mommy gets dressed?" millie smiled at her son, which received a nod and a giggle from liam.

liam ran off to find his father, and millie stood up, seeing that she was only wearing sweatpants and a tshirt. she sighed and got her red dress, throwing it on as quick as possible.

she stood in front of the mirror and gazed over her body. though she was older than she was when she lived in hawkins, she still didn't love the way she looked.

her eyes wandered down to her wrists, seeing the faded scars from long ago. she had always tried to wear bracelets or long sleeves to cover her wrists, but in this dress, they were exposed.

then, she remembered her rose necklace that she had gotten a long time ago. she ran to find the beautiful necklace and put it around her slim neck.

she watched it hang on her chest, standing out just enough from the red on her dress.

she felt someone come up behind her and wrap his arms around her waist. she saw him smile at her in the mirror and smiled back. his hands were placed gently on her stomach, which meant his forearms were on her hips.

finn wore a tux, all black, with a red vest underneath, matching millie's dress perfectly.

he grinned again when he the rose on her neck.

soon, their son walked in the view of the mirror to join them.

they were a happy, complete family.
